Our own Main Stream Media has already killed fair journalism here. All we get now is Deep State propaganda unless you go online to the few sites that still report truth. It's sad how far Western Media has fallen.
It seemed that some kind of switch went off in the media around the time HW Bush was POTUS. It had been biased long before that of course, but the bias seemed to get 'bad' around then. I was an older teenager/almost 20 around then, but certainly saw the bias get worse. The media began to consolidate around this time and more shitty liberal cable TV channels started to pop up .... that's probably why it seemed to move to "bad".
It went from bad to worse after 9/11. The media had to walk a fine line at first. They couldn't let Bush get too popular despite the Bush family being DS members. People linked Bush with conservatism and by no means could the DS afford that many people seeing through progressive bullshit as his populatiry rose. However, they couldn't criticize Bush badly since it might wake a people up.
As a result, the media certainly took advantage of this situation to insure people weren't that upset when garbage like the Patriot Act was passed. They downplayed its impact and accused anyone against it as being pro-terrorist. They also played a "brilliant" role of being cautious cheerleaders for the Iraq invasion.
Once Bush was re-elected, he all but mailed in his Presidency. They had to start setting things up for 2008. Bush let the media walk all over him. Since most people equated Bush with "conservative", that brand started to look bad among the electorate. That led to Rs losing control of the House and Senate in 2006, then ushering in the Age of Ohaha with commanding control of the House and a near supermajority in the Senate (all to get Ofuckercare passed and begin taking control of the US economy).
The media started to enter the lunatic stage after the 2010 midterms. I don't think the DS thought it would have been as bad as it was for them (I also suspect they got really creative with fraud in the aftermath of that election).
It ran off a cliff during the 2016 POTUS election. It's been stuck in the gutter ever since.
It was amazing how the entire media was supporting Bush 100% during that military action. IIRC, he had a 90% approval rating heading into the 1992 POTUS election. Half of the reason Clinton (who certainly knew Bush before 1992) won the Rat nomination is because no Democrats wanted to run against Bush.
Bush basically let Clinton win. People blame Perot, but Bush had more than enough power to make sure some 3rd party was going to screw him out of the Presidency. Bush wanted Clinton to win.
I always find it amazing that they'll call Clinton one of the most popular Presidents in history yet he never cracked 50% in either general election.
That's why I read foreign newspapers.

I think you're on to something. I remember the media going all in for Bush's Gulf War 1. To be repeated a decade later by his son.
