I think there are many psychological factors at play here. Things like:

I'm a good boi doing my part
Compliance gives my life meaning, something to virtue signal about
Good old fear, etc

I mean I can see not wearing a mask as a "fuck biden" signal, but wearing one being a "fuck Trump" signal? I don't really feel that, not right now at least.

The mask has three purposes:

muzzle to shut you up
sign of submission
constant reminder to be fearful
