I always wondered that too. My whole childhood she was on Fox, so when she went to CBS I was very confused. Not that I think Fox is good, I know it isn't, but CBS???
If I recall correctly, Catherine's contract was about ready to expire and Fox had failed to meet for negotiations or to even offer an extension on the contract, so she shopped herself around and got offered a nice deal at a competing network.
She took that offer and continued on.
I was worried the new place would hamstring her and her conservative leanings, but it seems they've allowed her to roam free.
