Why would they tape it on in such a fashion? Do they not have label makers? Or permanent marker on 1 strip of tape? Seems a little odd to do that. Not to mention every bot on Twitter is also saying high energy lipid protein. Seems like a convenient excuse.
Yes, it is more convenient to use tape, as tape isn't as easily removed and is much easier to clean. Paper also sheds particulates like crazy, and when you're dealing with delicate equipment designed to detect volumes of nanoliters, paper is the last thing you're supposed to have in a safety hood.
So observe a couple commenters on the post - including apparently it's common to tape like this - WHY? It looks like crap, why not use oh a label maker or something.
Because most lab techs don’t have time for that silly shit. Scotch tape is easier. And since labs are routinely cleaned, most places just remake paper signs instead of waisting label maker tape.
It's easier to make letters out of tape? Huh, ok. I mean I'm not arguing I'll take your word for it but it sure seems silly vs just labeling it with a post-it or something.
you know what? on second look, it's pretty obvious the H-E-L-P is in a reflection.. and given this is someone recording a monitor/TV from a phone, this is even more bullshitty. The letters are clearly not on the same can't/surface as the machine. This looks fake as fucking hell.
edit: third look. I'm back and forth on this. It looks like it possibly could be taped on the machine but without the source video, it's not definitive for me. But it's clear there's tape being used on something. But pretending like this is some plea by someone in the lab is fucking insane.
It stands for High Energy Lipid Protein. Nothing here folks.
I thought it stood for Let's Go Brandon.

You ever been in a lab? There’s tape and paper signs and shit everywhere. Even diagnostic labs.
This is extremely common
Sounds like my desk at home.😂

"Whew, lad". And this right here is why the over 50% U.S. STEM PhD candidates are on H1B visas. Edit: Why'd you delete your comment?
In the fantasyland of your head until others chime in dude.
I see. Hey good luck with that.
