I have 3.5 acres. Spent the last 2 weeks binge watching HOMESTEAD RESCUE. Greenhouse, chickens, and a cash crop or business. Water source. Electric source if necessary. Yep. I start the greenhouse tomorrow. The coups start after Christmas. I'm going to take an acre down to clay and flood it and plant rice this spring. THIS is the BEST SOLUTION!! Great post BTW!
That show Homestead Rescue is amazing. We should all do what we can. My grandfather always had cows on someone else's land and my grandmother always had food growing and they lived in town on a small lot. Independence is what we must achieve again to be free.
One of the reasons I am hanging on to you tube is all of the homesteaders who have channels. There has been a bunch of folks who have gone off grid in the last two years. "frugal off grid " is one of my favorites. justin Rhodes is another.
Just want to mention this re the organic produce growing. When you pick out land, you have to check and see, documented, how long ago (if ever) the land or even the adjacent land, was growing crops using commercial pesticides. Land has to have gone a certain number of years without chemicals, for you to legally and morally be able to grow true organic produce and sell it advertised as such. Also, pay attention to where any big growers are around you and if you are predominantly downwind of them so you don't get a place where you have to smell those poisons in the air. Anyone remember that book from back in the day, "Five Acres and Independence"? It was so helpful.
To think outside of the box you were brainwashed in would be to put your phone down and go live life. Your phone is literally the box you were brought up with and brainwashed into slowly.
This has been my dream for along while. I would dearly love get out into the country, be closer to nature and just live free. I would love to be self reliant. I will admit that my forays into gardening were disastrous. Ultimately, I would love to grow enough food to feed myself through the year. Great topic, fren. I hope you can get that weekly thread going. Why not? A lot of people here would be interested, I'm sure.
Check out "landwatch " or realtor.com, zillow etc. Just type in your price point and # of acres. Then spend some time in seeing what is out there that is a lot cheaper.

We need to tell government to get off our land when they come to inspect, tax, or otherwise bother us in any way.

It would be awesome to have homesteading place. Somewhere to post & ask questions about canning, gardening, raising poultry, beef.
We should have a homesteading.win!
Mine too... I have been canning awhile too. Lots of people haven't tho
