Distance. Moon is over 380x more near earth and sun is really like everlasting nuke. Mercury is half distance and has no fucking atmosphere yet its surface from sunny side is so hot it would melt lead.
Not to mention light is least important of the radiation.
When those "shiny orb" would be so big to look bearing on this planet then would be no water and no life possible (radiation too) on this planet.
