I remember right after President Trump was elected and Hollywood was having fits about it, he was the first major star to talk about supporting the new President. What's weird is that I don't recall him getting a bunch of grief over it. Perhaps he's not comped.

As a recovering Tom Hanks fan, Matthew is one of a small handful who would really upset me if he turned out to be down with all the Satanic shit these people are up to (Denzel and Jamie Foxx being the other 2).
I always thought he was ok, I gained a lot of respect for him after hearing him on a (during) covid Rogan. He is a very humble, thoughtful man considering all he has. Not the stereotype hollyweird hunk.

At the time, probably yes if I was a struggling actor. Idk enough about his career to know if he qualified as such at the time. I tend to think of A Time to Kill as his breakthrough but I may be wrong. Hell, like 2 years ago I wouldn't have thought anything of it. Now, hell no.
