You're not. I tend to upvote on posts that use it as a voting system or on posts I consider unusually good, which means the majority I just read and move on.
Tbh I think the whole upvote thing is a little middle shcoolish. I mean some people flood this board with news stories nonstop and I’m convinced it’s about the upvotes and the possibly of a stickie.
I don't really mind it so much, but I also kind of like looking at various bits of news. The downside is that I tend to be like a squirrel with it so any attempts to do deep research gets sidetracked when something new pops up.
Always upvote good content. Always upvote when someone replies to your comment (unless obvious shill etc) It’s just an acknowledgement you got their message but also encouragement so they keep engaging. It’s hard when you’re a newbie. Be kind to all who try.
Pet peeve- when people write “please pray for__” or “I need help” type posts and then you spend time replying and they never even comment or acknowledge. I look at it as a conversational thing. Common decency. You wouldn’t just sit there stone faced in a real life conversation. Anyway, the more you acknowledge people, I think the overall board content improves.
Agreed. Post comments need to acknowledged just on principle. My point was to see upvotes for traffic and visibility more than merit on stickied posts.
People should upvote whatever post they think deserves an upvote, even the stickied posts. That is the way it should be. Its never a popularity contest nor do we need to prove how active our site is compared to other dotwins etc. If you are taking part in the community, you know what its like - it is exactly what it is and does not need to be portrayed as anything else!
Thought about this for awhile now. There’s no way the numbers represent the whole. I don’t think they would suppress it purposefully, but I do think we are kept compartmentalized into separate rooms for a reason. My best guess is either for security or to tweak the ratio of normies to seasoned anons because the comment area seems very balanced always.
It will clog up the feed of hot, rising, and top. I'm sure other people besides me use those feeds based off of comments and updoots because we don't have time to read every post.
If its good material I give it an upvote. If it's nothing special I skip over it. On rare occasion If its obvious disinformation or extremely ridiculous it gets a downvote.
I just feel like updoot/downdoot is there for a reason and participation trophies shouldn't be handed out for no reason. In my opinion it takes away from the people that work hard to put a good post together and deserves to be visable. That is just my opinion though.
I’ve been intending to post about this for a couple months but never had an appropriate place and certainly not an observation I felt worth it’s own post…
I came over right after voat shut down. There has been a gradual change here after things peaked after inauguration. To me it feels like we lost many of the real anons(doing deep research) over the summer. There is way less research today, albeit fewer numbers still providing good information. The board has become a news feed which is not all negative, but in my opinion, too much reference to MSM articles. I also lurk on 8kun and spend about an hour each day reviewing daily posts. I believe their traffic is much higher than here but there is a lot of bullshit over there. A ton of shills and meaningless dribble but still has valuable content. (Just have to sift through a lot more to find it). They have debates about similar issues over there but difficult to determine if you don’t have the skills to evaluate user history). Shills aside, the real anons have been “quieter” than they were. Not sure if they have gone someplace else or staying quiet for other reasons. There appears to be fewer people in general here but that’s less hard to figure out
I mostly lurk. Read lots of good stuff but often forget to upvote. I venture a guess that I’m not alone in that.

If we were here for upvotes, we would all be still asleep.
This ☝️
I don’t doubt that. But it’s good to see traffic and not feel like it’s the shallow end of the pool.

Shiny objects. Lol.
Yep. Me too. That’s my point.

Yeah, yours is a good point.
And downvote shit that should never have been stickied
Ha! A lot if that but once it’s stickied it’s pretty much game over no?
Sadly true.

Fair point.
"karma" (I think that's what they call it) is ghey. Engage in debate.
Karma? For an upvote on an anonymous dark hole on the internet? I’m just curious to see how much visibility there is here.
note the quotes
Roger that.

No. I resist.

I hope I am wrong
No.
Lol. You are here. Just a thought.
Clearly this is the way. I’m just curious about how many eyes are on posts.
