Putin is not an evil guy, he's certainly not a nice guy either. He isn't an ally, but I don't think he is a true enemy YET.
What he is, is a rough approximation of Trump for Russia - he is pro Russia and anti satanic cabal. I believe he genuinely cares about his country, and he has also made himself extremely rich and stepped on many people along the way. He's not as nice as Trump, but Trump can be a hard hard man too.
He could be an Ally - and might have been eventually if Trump had been allowed to win.
I could never quite understand if he was a white hat or black hat. I like your explanation. I think this is one of those scenarios that we may never truly know, but just that good things happened behind the scenes between Putin and Trump.
There's a decent documentary about his rise to power. He clawed his way to the top by whatever means available to him during the Soviet era, so he isn't "good" per se, at least THEN he wasn't a good guy. I agree with other replies that his professed Christian foundations at this stage in life would indicate he isn't the ruthless Kleptocrat of his younger days.
Regardless, to maintain power as he has, in that environment, would at least hint that he knows how to make an enemy disappear quickly, quietly, and forever.
