I installed Ubuntu for a friend recently, they love it. There is a new one called Clear Linux, looks slick but I couldn't get it to install on a brand new laptop.
I've tried a few distributions, and Ubuntu is pretty ease to install. I am pretty happy with the Pop!_OS flavor. In other distributions I used to spend a lot of time fiddling with configurations, which I don't mind, but Pop has pretty much worked out of the box for me.
When you decide to take the plunge it's good to have another computer with an internet connection handy (or even a phone in a pinch) for those moments when you don't know what to do.
I've been dabbling in Linux for about 5 years. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's catastrophically bad. I recommend having 2 computers running different distros for when one inevitably and inexplicably stops working.
Yeah, who knows. Certainly fuckery afoot.
Wasn't I talking to you a few months back about switching to linux? How'd it go?
Can you get an old cheap computer to practice on?

What do you think about Qubes or TAILS?
I have used both those, but not in a while, I don't remember Qubes tbh, I used it once, just to test it, years ago.
I like Ubuntu and Mint for most uses. Tails and Kali are great tho. You better be careful with Kali tho.
Got any local techie friends?
