Wifey loves this: Post office photographs every piece of mail so she can see what is going to be delivered. So does anybody believe that USPS provides this free service to serve us better? If the service is free, then YOU are the product. (informeddelivery.usps.com)

So surely they have pics of all those mail-in ballots as well.

I found this feature incredibly useful for proving my tenant was a lying piece of shit and evicting him

Yes. USPS Informed Delivery.

Oh, and it goes a step further with the mail, lately, too. It'll scan a company logo off a piece of mail and start sending you ads for that company now in the informed delivery email, too.

I found it handy when I was expecting something and they showed it was delivered, I called the post office and they had the mailman figure out where she left it. They figured it out and I did receive it. Would only do that for important stuff, not junk mail.

It is useful, I admit.

But I think they created the system for nefarious reasons, to build maps of everybody you correspond with and every business you deal with. It is all about the coming social score.

They can do this regardless of whether you sign up for informed delivery or not.

No doubt, but the service gives them the excuse. I'm sure all the data on who is sending you mail goes directly to Blackrock/CCP/Illuminati HQ to build maps to use to lower your social credit score.

Then, the jokes on them. I rarely mail anything and the only mail I get is bills and junk mail.

It's not free, it is the USPS pandering to the customer base that is used to having gps tracking on their Amazon driver, so they don't wise up to how big a waste of taxpayer dollars the whole operation is.

GPS tracking should be standard though.

Also the USPS is paid through taxpayer dollars anyway.

It is usps.com, hardly a controversial website. I can't imagine why your VPN would block it.

I get that also. It's great knowing if I am going to get junk mail today or not. Other than that it is useless.

Every piece of mail in the USPS is recorded all the time. they are just letting you see the stuff going to your mailbox

Yes. I'm guessing somewhere in the terms of service when you sign up is your consent for them to do what they want with the information. They are always really big on getting consent.

Only problem is what is delivered and what was emailed is often different. Our local mail is so F'ed up, I started using Fed ex for my out going mail.

Great so we can track all the mail in ballots then!

So wouldn't they have images of all the ballot envelopes mailed to the polls in the last election? Numbers should match.

We didn’t have that capability where I worked as a carrier for my local post office. There are only three of us at the post office; the post master, assistant post master and the rural route carrier.

We don’t deliver in town, the boxes are free at the post office here because we do not deliver in town. We don’t even have an LLV.

The main truck comes from the hub and delivers to the smaller towns. In our case it arrived by 7:45 am, and we are the last stop on its route. The driver has a camper in our town that he stayed in until time to pick up the outgoing mail at 3pm and then made the circle back through all the smaller towns and then on to the hub.

Fed-ex showed up about 10am, after I’d already left on my route to deliver the mail and UPS showed up around noon. Those packages were delivered the next day.

So, in my case, if any pics were done, it was done at the hub. All we had were scanners for the bar codes on packages or registered letters.

Although, when I retired 5 years ago, the new scanners could do a lot more than just scan the packages. They could talk to you thru them, video you while you were doing your route (that’s why I kept it turned upside down, all they could see was the seat), track exactly where you were located, and more.

My last straw was when they decided to require that my personal vehicle that I used to deliver mail in could not be over 3 years old and had to have less than 80,000 miles on it; and it had to be a van with sliding doors.

My route was 118 miles a day. I drove that route for 18 years in my full size pickup. I still have that truck today and she’s got 338,000 miles on her now. Still runs like a champ. I still drive her everywhere I go.

I need to know the year and model of your truck! I've got almost 90k on my 2012 Silverado Hybrid.

2002 Dodge Quad Cab Pickup.

I’m a stickler for maintenance schedules. She made all her appointments for oil, filters, transmission maintenance. My dad taught me to keep up the maintenance on my vehicles and they last forever.

Nice! I've already had to replace my front transfer case and had to have the front suspension rebuilt. Engine has been great so far, though.

I’ve had to have one tie rod replaced, and the brakes had to be done every six months while running the mail. I’ve had the rear end rebuilt twice. Engine and transmission are original and haven’t had any problems there so far.

A sizable chunk of my income every paycheck pays for the usps. I want squeeze every ounce of use. I use this as well. A better question is why the fuck should a US citizen pay for postage.

To prevent abuse of the system you must charge postage. And you could hardly expect the post office to check citizenship for every letter you mail.

I dont know. I see your point but though. So to prevent the usps from being abused they double dip into ours pockets?

We currently pay postage and the abuse of the post office has lead to helping steal an election.
