Autoimmune condition here for over 20 years. I have had shingles 3 times during times where my constantly attacked body had extreme stress put upon it. I'm here to say it is horrendous. It's a lateral disease and once, after a major surgery, I developed it from my spine, around my right side, all the way to midline chest. Like 75% of that area covered. It feels like glass shards are poking through your skin, let alone the malaise/fatigue, sleeplessness, and even low fever. Nobody who has had shingles would describe it as "really not that bad." I would never take the shingles "vaccine" that exists but everything I can do to maintain my body, I do it, with avoiding shingles being one of my motivators for why i do what i do. Not the highest reason on the list but it definitely makes the list.
Sorry your experience was worse than mine. I’ve never gotten the shingles vax and wouldn’t plan to either. It wasn’t fun to have an itchy band of bumps around half my body but it really wasn’t that bad for me.
Shingles is really not fun. I had it, and it hurt like a bitch. It's uncomfortable, you feel sorta sick while you have it, it can take a good while to clear up too. I definitely wouldn't say it's "not that bad."
Sorry you had a worse bout of it than I did. I had it as a pre-teen and my experience was not bad. Maybe it was because I was young - the doctors were shocked as it is usually older folks who seem to come down with it. They said stress probably brought mine on. Still wouldn’t ever get the vax for it.

It can kill you.
It’s a rash, man.
Look into it.
