Just going to walk in to work and refuse outright to wear a mask. I have a voice recorder that I plan on bringing with as well. I'm going to start doing my job without a mask, refuse to wear one, and tell them to give me a written letter of termination otherwise.
EDIT: Guys, prayers worked, SCOTUS didn't completely betray us all
When I'm forced to, where other family members are involved, I wear a clear plastic mask I made from some food-grade wrapping plastic, packaging tape, and the cut-off ear elastic bands off the typical slave mask.
I had to use a soldering iron and some metal heat plates (so the plastic doesn't burn in direct contact with the iron nib) to melt the edges, reinforced it with the packaging tape, and fused the ear bands in with a good pressing of the soldering iron on the metal plate.
So, basically, it looks well-manufactured, and identical in design to a cloth mask but it is clear plastic, so see-through.
I breathe fine in it, as the masks don't work anyway, and all the air comes in from the top and the sides. Again, no fundamental difference in design from the cloth and china-made masks.
I was confronted by a nurse who tried to go Karen on me in the hospital, and she told me to wear a cloth mask.
I could, boldly, respond "My mask works better than yours, it's solid plastic" and she was shut down only able to reply back "we're not gonna have that argument right now." She later called security to hunt me down and demand I put on a cloth slave mask. I put it on over my plastic one in defiance. I still could breathe fine.
Sometimes, you gotta get clever and over-indulge in their stupidity to the point they start to realize exactly how stupid they are being.
Consider this popular passage from Matthew 5:
Jesus isn't telling us to give in.
He's telling us to be defiant.
In antiquity, someone would slap you on the right cheek (backhand) with their left hand (the hand they wipe shit with) to show you are less than them and a lousy peasant. By offering your left cheek, you require them to use their right hand, which bears their signet ring (old-timey ID). Doing that meant they would have to put you on their level and slap you like they would a noble.
If someone demands your shirt and you offer them your cloak as well, that leaves you naked. The spectacle of a noble requiring another to strip in the street would give everyone the impression that they have gone mad and are going tyrannical. You expose them publicly for being a no-good authoritarian crazy enough, and possibly gay enough, to require men strip naked before them.
If someone forces you to go one mile carrying their luggage, then keep walking and go an extra mile. If they only wanted you to carry it for a mile, it means their destination is only in a mile. By going two miles, and dropping their crap off in the next town over, you will have required them to pick up the junk and walk back to their intended location a whole mile anyways.
Jesus was being facetious with this parable, and it has since been lost in translation for the obvious reasons.
If someone requires you to bend, bend further than they would want. Go crazy on them, and make a spectacle of their unreasonable and tyrannical demands of you.
That's the only way to get them to realize and be embarrassed about how psycho-bitch Karen they've become.
Nice, you might get flack from some people for complying at all, but they probably don't understand that you should defy where you can when you can. Sometimes you have to comply in order to do what needs to be done. in this case, I assume you ended up complying in order to visit someone at the hospital or something similar. I know one person on here who wouldn't like this idea. but I think they are simpleminded or oversimplifying the situations people have. You need to comply in some situations like I have to give up my right to bear a firearm when I visit my brother in prison. I resist up until I am placed into a position where I either comply or I give up something else important, such as visiting a family member in a prison, or hospital.
I believe you are correct. Life is a navigation and we must each choose for ourselves the hills we are willing to die on. So we need to make it count.
When I absolutely have to wear a face covering I am at least going to do it in such a way that does not harm me physically. Plus it does snap people awake at the same time. I have an N95 mask that has a personal HEPA filter that pumps filtered air to the mask. When someone asks about it I can simply tell them that masks do not protect them and they are sucking up all their own toxic exhalations. That, according to OSHA air quality standards, is not healthy. The expressions on their faces at that point are priceless.
My personal HEPA filter will remove particles down to about 1 micron, the size of some of these so called infectious particles. In addition, it gives me cleaner air that is pumped into my mask creating a positive air flow. This is opposite of what everyone around me is doing making their lungs work harder trying to breath in their own exhaled CO2 and sucking in the unfiltered surrounding air - creating a negative air flow. It does get people's attention and they don't know what to say. It certainly gives them something to consider. So, like @sleepydude states, if we much comply, go further. Sometimes that action in the end will do more to wake others up than defiance.
sounds good, I am too cheap for that, I have a very thin gaitor mask I got for free.
I really do get the cheap thing. But, I have had to do this out of necessity. Over 25 years in health care wearing a mask has left ifs effects. I am to the point now where I cannot wear a mask of any kind without struggling to breath and feeling claustrophobic. I know noid colleagues that are double masking with an N95 and a surgical mask and are also wearing face shields. It is insane. The acidity from breathing in all the CO2 for years was showing up in my bloodwork - I just didn't put the pieces together. I was also getting a narcolepsy of sorts - always tired and struggled to stay awake in the middle of the day. Driving in the late afternoon became scary. I racked my brains considering everything but those damn masks. Even put myself through a sleep study and no problems there. I am just upset that I didn't figure it all out sooner.
Anyway, glad to hear you have your own solution - and it didn't cost you a dime - even better. Those gaitors are easy to pull up and down versus traditional surgical type masks. They sure do look better too. Nice when you can get them with really thin material. Plus, I like the idea of something that is cloth that I can wash myself rather than those cheap masks coming out of China. Seen some of those masks under a high power microscope and it is the stuff nightmares are made of. The masks I wear at work are made with ultra hypersensitive materials. They seem to be far cleaner than what everyone else is wearing. For everyday regular use around the Karens, I like your idea.
Thank you for being reasonable. I bought a product at Christmas for family members who at times have to mask; flying for business, etc. Can breath comfortably; woman's lace style calls no attention to the holes in them. https://www.getunmask.com/ (have no interest in this company; just passing along)
Wow I really like that Sleepydude. Nice work, fren.
Nice interpretations to those sayings of the Master. Thank you for taking the time to elaborate.
Just a little correction on the "carry their luggage" example.
In Roman times, a member of the Roman military, while travelling, had the legal right to demand a non-citizen to carry their luggage for a mile. There were milestone markers along the roads to assist with this.
Jesus wasn't telling us to cause the guy problems (we'd likely get skewered by the soldier), but instead to show our strength of character (meekness) by literally "going the extra mile" when we didn't have to. This would not be lost on the soldier, who was probably used to people performing their minimal duty.
In the long game, this wound up contributing to people looking upon Christians in a different light.
