I am all FOR businesses making their own decisions and NOT forced into making decisions by the government. Their decision was to mandate it for their employees. They ARE allowing religious and medical exceptions though which are pretty easy to get so anybody who thinks their jobs are at stake just need to submit one. I don’t agree with mandates but Carhartt is making their OWN decision and I respect that. They now will have to live with the consequences of their actions. My 2 cents.✝️🇺🇸🗽
The blowback isn't about respecting their decision.
It is about people's lives being torn asunder for no good reason.
What if you aren't religious and don't have a medical exemption? Is that some kind of solution, that employees should be forced to lie?
The vaccines are unsafe and completely ineffective. The mandate is utter bullshit, and unless they change their mind, many families are going to be thrown into a difficult position for no rational reason.
Carhartt can do this if they want. It is their choice. It is also my choice to never buy any more Carhartt clothing again. And I probably have at least $1000 of the product.
Yes that’s the beauty of America. We ALL have the right to make choices…even bad ones. I hate to see such a well respected company make in my opinion a bad choice. The free will of companies is what helps make America strong. Some will survive, some will not. They will suffer the consequences of their decisions. I hate to see a good company go down with the decisions of a few board members….
Not likely a board decision. Management decision. Boards don’t operate the companies; they hire and fire management based on how they operate the company, it’s called governance. And it’s a bad career decision to put wokeness ahead of profits. Companies should be apolitical if at all possible and risk being hated by all, instead of deliberately distancing itself from half of its customers. You say they’re exercising free will, and you applaud their ability to be able to do so. I’m not saying that’s wrong, I’m just saying managing out of fear is like a coach playing “not to lose”, instead of “to win”. It’s not a sound business decision and the board should care because these actions can do permanent harm to a company’s reputation and profitability, maybe even threaten it’s very survival. It’s also a bad business decision because history shows that companies that respect their employees are more productive than companies who treat their employees like children.
spez: if the BOD is woke, and the managers are just trying to keep their jobs, I can’t blame them, but those boards need to decide what the purpose of the organization is. If it’s profits, then coercing management to operate the company from a woke perspective is a dereliction of board duty, for which they should be removed from the board and may risk financial liability.
Totally agree they made a bad decision. But in America we have a right to make bad decisions too. That’s all I’m saying. It’s too bad they did put wokeness and politics ahead of their base and employees. The company will suffer. Peace. ✝️🇺🇸🗽
I'm having a hard time accepting the frame of the debate,
that being, that the employee even has to "opt-out" of any elective medical procedure.
and that the employer, at their sole discretion, is able to choose who is allowed "exemptions" and who is not.
Well said. ‘Religious exemption”. I need some corporate hack to decide if the First Amendment applies to me or not? I don’t think so.
Religious exemptions are the right of any citizen under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. You don't ask for an exemption, you notify the company you a invoking your right. Companies not respecting this may be grounds for suit.
not a lawyer, not legal advice.
I would love to see companies sued over this. Too many companies right now are "reviewing and assessing" religious exemptions, as if they have any right to deny this right. Most people don't have the time and money to hire a lawyer and fight this, so they either move on to a different job or cave and get the jab.
Speaking personally, I was interviewing and applying for jobs the second I got a notice that my ex-employer was going to institute a jab mandate. I didn't have time to play their games only to be denied and lose an income with a family to support.
It's a bit different when you tread on someone's private rights. This is a permanent procedure and they have no right to force it.
It’s like you’re saying, “what the fuck? Socialism, really?”
A company has a right to manage AND mismanage which is what appears Carhartt has done… mismanaged. They will suffer the consequences of their decisions and may likely go down in flames. Bottom line it was their decision. Peace.
Nobody has a right to work for Carhartt.
Carhartt has a right to not let you work there if they feel you are putting their other employees in danger. In fact, being in Michigan they can fire you for whatever reason they want.
See how that works.
So can I fire employees for not having sex with me?
There are some limits as to what an employer can ask an employee to do.
Can they fire someone because of how they look?
As others have said, there are things that are off limits.
These are one of them, and don't cuck out on it.
They cant fire you for any reason if your union and many of the us carhart employees wisely unionized.
I submitted a religious exemption over the summer. It got denied and I lost my job in September. I still haven’t found work in my area. So if a company has the power over you to put something in your body and they are the ones to decide what is redeeming for an exemption, how do you see that as respectable?
Being able/allowed to MAKE a decision, be it good OR bad s the American way. Like it or not. You can choose to still work for them OR NOT, you can man-up and quit blaming others for your troubles, YOU are in control NOT them. Don’t let them GET to you . Show them you don’t need them and be better than them. Respect that we ALL have a right to choices/ decisions MOT the actual decision. Theirs was not a wise one. I totally agree.
So if by your definition the American way is the right to choose, how are these companies living the American way by denying the employers the right to choose to get the jab or not? This isn’t being disgruntled about your hours or the pay and choosing to leave. This is employers forcing an experimental injection that has the potential to kill people. This goes against the Nuremberg code and is illegal, but since the government and courts are corrupt, it all stands. I “maned-up” by not getting the vax and now I’m fighting them legally. I chose the harder path for a better tomorrow. What you are saying that it’s ok to bend over or leave if you don’t like it. But guess what, after continuously leaving there will come a point where there is no where else to run. I guess that’s where we disagree. Something that is this grotesque has no place in a free country IMO.
Also, you are forgetting that for a lot of people contracts are involved with employment. Since I was fired before the end of my contract, they are coming after me for thousands of dollars to pay them back for schooling. So my “options” is to get forced to get the jab, quit and have to pay them back thousands of dollars, or get fired and they try to fight me legally for thousands of dollars. It’s been a fun 4 months.
Sorry to hear about your struggles. It’s definitely not right with what they decided to do. I’m in total agreement with you there, it’s wrong for sure. The only thing I’m saying is that they have a right to make BAD DECISIONS as well as good ones. They pissed a lot of people off and I’m one of them. They will pay for it dearly. Companies who make bad decisions will die. Peace to you and you family.
You and your two cents can fuck right off
My God, you people do not understand free will, freedom of speech and choices. You have the right to say what you just said. I may not like it but it’s America. I can respect your ABILITY to make that decision. Simple. Again Carhartt made a bad choice in my opinion. You make statements without reason. That’s displaying your level of intelligence ….pretty low there Jr.
