This is super personal and not the place for this but I honestly have no idea where to go for help here. My husband and I are both sick. He tested positive for covid because his company required him to take a test.
Here's my dilemma:
- I just finished an antibiotic for an infected tooth and need to get a root canal but rescheduled because my husband was sick and didn't want to risk making anybody else sick.
- We were both taking quercetin, c, d3 and zinc so how in the hell did we get this unless it is true that there is no cure for the common cold or flu? So now, out of an abundance of caution we are taking the India pack of ivermectin, zinc & doxycycline.
- In addition I am also being treated with ciproflaxacin for a kidney infection and the online docs who are treating me are suggesting that if I'm still having issues that I seek medical care for IV antibiotics as this could turn into c-diff. The idea of going near a hospital literally has me reaching for xanax especially if I have the kung-flu on top of everything else.
- I take a pretty strong probiotic regularly so I'm not too worried about the antibiotics.
Symptoms of kidney infection are easing so my gut is saying to ride it out a little while longer.
Does anybody know of any type of home health care that I can get near the Pittsburgh, PA area for testing and IV antibiotics or should I ride this out and pray for the best?
I’m confused on the C-diff thing as well. That would assume that the kidney infection, that’s currently being treated with antibiotics, after coming off a different cycle of antibiotics, will spread to the colon. It’s oddly specific so I’m unsure as to how your doctor is making that connection. If anything kidney infections would cause septicemia before anything, but it’s unlikely if you’re taking the antibiotics to help fight it.
My advice is that if you’re not having any symptoms, and it sounds like your husband isn’t since he only found out he had it because he had to get tested for work, just take a watch and wait approach. If your symptoms change or get worse seek medical care.
Also, if your kidney infection symptoms are starting to clear up it’s doubtful that it will spread anywhere, much less your colon. Wait to see what happens and if you are concerned seek treatment, but in any case make sure to finish the course of antibiotics even though you feel better
I was taking D3 (10,000 iu), magnesium (300mg), zinc (30mg), K2 (200µg) and C (1g) daily when I got covid symptoms in Jan 2020. I still got the fever, myalgia, cough, headache and loss of taste but no lung problems and it lasted less than a week. I didn't have quercetin available at the time.
Anyway, while I believe that this concoction helps to beat it off, it doesn't prevent you from catching it.
By the way, if you take zinc for any length of time (months) then you should also have cocoa each day to replace the copper that you'll lose.
I've had root canals with no obvious problems.
What you say makes sense. I cannot take cocoa as I'm allergic to it.
We take d3 5000iu, magnesium 500mg, zinc 50mg, C 2000mg and quercetin.
I'm wondering if I should reschedule yet again...grrr so frustrating and we're horrible patients!
I love this place. Bless you all.
Not a med pede, but please research Cipro. Aside from destroying your gut flora and making you vulnerable to CDif, it does a real number on your tendons.
I have two people in my life with serious tendon damage after taking it. You are at risk for an Achilles tendon blowout for something like 6 months after taking it. This has been known for decades, and they still prescribe it.
Better throw Levaquin in there too! It’s in the same abt family. But seems like we didn’t hear about the tendon problems w/ Cipro until Levaquin was handed out like candy.
I recommend taking a weapon of some sorts to the hospital if you do need to go, regardless of their rules.
That's about how I feel. The morons at our hospital have a metal detector in the ER entrance but the last time that I checked, there wasn't one at any other entrance. Yet more proof that cousins should not be allowed to marry, kek.

I totally forgot about that. I have MMS here but am going to wait a little until I don't feel like a pharmaceutical rattle.
You were on the right track with your thinking that you could end up with C Diff. Depending on what you just finished taking for your tooth and the fluoroquinolones (Cipro)—maybe not so much the Doxy—you are setting yourself up for a big change in your normal gut flora. And u understand the rest of that story. I see no reason to take both antibiotics at one time. Cipro is also a good respiratory abt. It can be hard on your kidneys tho so drink lots of water to keep them working.
I didn’t read the post thoroughly last nite. So… I think the online MD was warning u that antibiotics specifically the broad spectrum quinolone Cipro increases your risk of Cdiff. I am very curious as to what abt u took for your tooth problem. If u took Cleocin or Clindamycin (usually given when pt is allergic to penicillin) and are now taking Cipro your risks have increased exponentially. And severe cdiff would require hospitalization and IV abts—prob Vanc & Flagyl. As for the MD advising u to seek treatment and IV abt therapy if condition doesn’t improve/worsens, that is for the “safety of the pt” and CYA for the MD. Because if true bladder infection and organism isnt covered by prescribed abt or is Cipro-resistant, the infection can, for ex, spread to the kidneys causing pyelonephritis and acute kidney injury followed by worse case scenario of sepsis. Hope that helps. As for all of these infusions. Idk if they are necessary when the apple flavored horse paste has been all many have taken and recovered quickly.
I took amoxicillin for the tooth issue. We're still not feeling well but this is day two of ivermectin, doxy & zinc which again leads me to believe that this is just the run of the mill flu. Had very similar symptoms many years ago and the pain is definitely unmistakable. Low grade fever also controlled by acetominophin and/or ibuprofen.
Will do. Thank you. The fact that I can barely get my indoor humidity above 30% isn't helping. I can't help but feel that we both got sick because of it when we usually don't catch this kind of stuff.
About that- boil a large pot of water, toss something healthy and fragrant like orange peels or other citrus, spices like cloves, herbs like mint, eucalyptus, or any essential oils that help you. Keep an eye on the water level of course, and refill as needed, and your humidity levels should climb nicely.

Thank you very much. I was looking around yesterday and the only places that I could find was orgs that want a monthly fee.
It appears that they only do monoclonal antibodies... :(
Do you have diarrhea? Abdominal pain? Why is that doctor worried about cdiff?
No and no. The lack of diarrhea is surprising because that happened big time when treated for lyme disease with doxy years ago but also wasn't taking a very good probiotic then, either.
K
Are you looking for the monoclonal antibodies, is that what you want? If so I am in that area and therw is a place in Greentree.
Thank you but no. They docs online were recommending iv antibiotics if condition wasn't getting any better.
Do some research on that root canal. I would advise against it.
From personal experience, Cipro is nasty stuff. My elderly father took it and 24 hours later he was hallucinating and showing signs of dementia that only got worse as time when on. He was never the same after taking it.
Do some research online. There are support groups for people who have had issues with Cipro. You can go and read what they have to say.
Back when there was an anthrax scare in DC, the gov't made the DC postal workers take Cipro. There were so many adverse reactions to it, including the snapping of tendons, that the postal worked did a class action lawsuit.
I, personally, would NEVER take Cipro after seeing how my father reacted to it.
That's pretty scary. I haven't had any problems with it. Could do without the whole snapped tendon thing...
Some people do ok and others, well, not so much. It's a gamble...and one I'm not willing to take.
Just a nurse here, but I’d be sure to stay WELL hydrated.
Thank you!
How old are you and your husband?
57 and 60 respectively. This really feels like a bad flu and because we rarely get anything like this I'm pretty sure that it just has to run its course. We both have low grade fevers. I'm more frustrated by the fact that everything that we regularly take to keep our immune systems strong didn't hold a candle to this which also seems to be par for the course with colds and flus.
