The point is that vendors are signing up for booths now. They are using their leverage right now to coerce people into getting a medical treatment. I suspect they will change the requirement and I think they know they will. That is a more egregious violation in my mind. Gen Con is the largest table top game convention in the world. Many small companies depend on it to get their products taken into local game stores. They are using their position of influence to try and force people into the vaccine. Fuck them.
It will continue until we build alternatives that refuse to require vaccines, masks or vax passes.
Generally conventions are a financial drain/break even business for about 5 year while you establish your client/visitor base to show staying power & attendee growth before you get large investments by the major players in the niche your con is based on.
Sounds like some good red states need to start hosting these & new event s could attempt to drawn large crowds with a non vax requirement.
You may have heard that the 2023 Worldcon will be held in Chengdu, China. Huge controversy over how the voting was done (might sound familiar) but they're keeping the results.

I wonder if someone in their chain of command received an incentive

Understood. I agree with everything you've said. I guess this type of thing will continue until some legislature makes it illegal.
