Yeah fuck him for using operating systems that are actually secure. Windows 10 literally records everything you do. Source: background recording my gaming clips when I 360 no scope plebs.
Most people use a windows before anything else. It’s the stepping stone of operating systems, once you learn about computers you learn windows sucks and then you swap to linux. Quite a few things of Linux and windows overlap as well
Heh then I guess my kid is an outlier here. I grew up on Windows then switched over to Linux about 10 years ago and I've been teaching my kid how to use Linux. They still have not used Windows yet, not even at school (school uses chromebook).
I honestly think people should start using Linux when they are learning about computers and operating systems because Linux is almost the same as Windows, in terms of GUI and file/folder(directory) structure.
The only difference is that with Linux, you can navigate around everything from the terminal (command line for Windows). Yes I'm aware that you can do that with Windows but there are restrictions as well as powershell, which requires a lot of memorizing and looking up online. Heck, you can even install Powershell on Linux!
This is what got me about codemonkey, he couldn’t navigate the gui and file/folder structure of windows. It wasn’t the command prompt/terminal or powershell that he struggled with, it was the basic navigation
Ah I see, then that's BS. Maybe he was nervous or something like that but yeah, he should be able to navigate just fine. I mean the short cuts are literally almost the same as it's universal across OSes (the keys used may be different like OS X/Mac OS) and he should be using the search function if he's stuck at one point...
Ah well.
I hope you're joking here...
He was saying that Linux is secure and that Win10 spies on you. I'm not familiar with who couldn't use Windows during the cyber symposium, but I'm a Linux-only guy at home and now that work computers are Win10, my proficiency has been reduced. WinXP and 7 were alright, but I really hate 10. I also hate the scratch-n-sniff GNOME desktop since it's more of that Derpistan smartphone/tablet style appeal.
Yeah I hate Windows 10. They really fucked things up and changed the GUI to something awful. Very inconsistent throughout the whole GUI and all. That's why when news about Win 11 broke, I didn't even bat an eye or went looking for news on it. I was more of meh.
Been using Linux for about 10 years now and I'm on Fedora 35, however I'm thinking of switching over to CentOS. Fedora is nice and all but it's bleeding edge OS and has issues here and there. I think I want to have something reliable and stable on my 10 year old computer that I built. Don't know how long my girl has left in her to keep on chugging before I buy new parts (read: 1-2 year old parts) but now with the chip shortage, I couldn't find anything good out there that I can build for under 1K.
I don't know how well you can navigate around Windows, but remember, the search field is your best friend. Just type whatever you need i.e. "Network" and it will give you a list for you to pick from that best fit what you're looking for. Memorize the shortcuts so you can press windows key + R (for "run") and type in something like "regedit" and it will bring up registry editor, however I doubt you will have access to registry on your workstation! lol
But yeah I know what you're talking about, Windows is on the decline big time and I don't understand why they're using Windows for the frontend, while they could be customizing Linux and use them for workstations. There's nothing more a regular user can do other than doing wordprocessing, setting up charts and many more with Libre Office and whatever other free programs you can find with Linux. Windows is bloatware/spyware and have a lot of security holes that can easily be fixed if they use Linux instead.
About a half a year ago on this forum I started a topic encouraging everyone to switch to Linux and ditch the vaccines, spying, and child sex trafficking. The 10th will be my 2 year anniversary of switching from Windows to Mint and I love it. I watched a review of Win11 by a Linux user and he pointed out how it's mimicking Linux in several ways. Ironically, Microsoft's crap is going to push more and more people to Linux this year, I think. Q promised in #964 that Microsoft's day will come. I really want that company, Apple, and Google to fall hard.
