If you are getting 99.9 pure silver, its all technically same animal, BUT
Silver Coins would be very useful if there is a blackout/apocalypse/social breakdown scenario. However coins have a higher markup then bars.
Silver Bars, on the other hand, are easier to store and put away for long term bulk investment, where as in a social breakdown scenario it would be like carrying $1000 bills to the super market.
Bottom like, get bars and if when you get coins with low mark up, top them up.
As a long time collector of all sorts of silver. Bingo, Bubble is right. Also for trading, if you can find 1/2 or 1/4 oz, that's nice to have, but again higher costs due to lower unit of measure.
Well, when SHTF everyone might be using them. Kinda like the Indians and trading beads. Yeah, kinda useless, but they traded them for guns. Nice trade.
Junk silver is a term for circulated, pre 1964 coins containing silver. Some may be only 50% silver but there’s way more melt value then face value. And since they are circulated they aren’t particularly attractive to coin collectors.
Dimes are like 90% silver and small. So they are really nice for transactions if the dollar goes to pot. They’re relatively value dense, relatively small denominations on their own, and easy to carry. You might not get change from your quarter or half dollar.
Silver Eagles tend to have a premium on them since they’re easy to identify and a proven source of real silver.
If you are storing wealth, bars are better. But if the manufacturer isn’t well known you may take a little hit selling it later.
I suggest a variety. 1 oz coins, 1 1/2 coins. There are even some sheets you can buy that are scored so blocks can be clipped off in small amounts. Sheets are 100g and some are 10 x 10 with 1g sections or 2 x 5 with each section 10g. They're called CombiBars. Another thing that could be useful is silver shot. It's like little beads that can easily weigh out to certain weights. Small coins (1/4 and 1/2oz) are cool to have, but are a little more expensive as compared to spot price. I'm not a big fan of bars.
Gold can be bought in as little as 1g increments, as well as platinum. That's fairly affordable if you're investing.
One point not made by others here are the Chinese counterfeit rounds circulating. If your source is questionable, it's best to buy old worn U.S. dimes or quarters. You're sure of what you're getting that way, and there's no question when they are redeemed.
Bars are for investing, cheap silver coins are for prepping.
Lately I have been buying 64 and before silver dimes for prepping it's called junk silver or 90% silver. Pretty much just try to buy low premium silver. Modern American eagles have too high a premium. South African silver krugerands have a very good value.

Dimes are a great way to trade/ buy goods.
With whom? Other larpers?
I'm not taking your stupid junk for my valuable goods.
When SHTF, your gold and silver are a weight burden worth NOTHING.
AB SO LUTE LY
NOTHING.

For pre-1964 US coins, NEVER accept face value. A silver quarter should be at the very least 10x face value.
"Junk" silver (90%) value right now is roughly 17x face value.
Retail price has been more than 20x face value for over a year now.
pre-1965
A silver dime will always be worth 10 cents at least.

So pre 64 is still good? 😉
Ow! Ya got me.

And you might find suckers that think those are 100% silver.
Everyone knows they're not 100%. Buyers factor in the 90% silver content. You're missing the point. If you buy smart, you're fine.

Buy what you like,it's all good.
prepping, lol god damn it, you fucking larpers
If SHTF, I am taking food and ammo, that is it... you can stick that silver in a bowl and eat it.
Calculator for current value of 90% ("junk") silver coins:
https://www.silvercoins.com/coin-value-calculator/
I have some one oz siver bars, and coins
For society break down invest in food, booze, water, ammo, cigarettes, pain killers, antibiotics
Silver is for after recovery begins.
American eagles command higher spot than some off brands. It's hard to make change so to speak from a 5 or 10 Oz bar when bartering
Both are good
I do also but was wondering what was more desirable
Guns and ammo bro. Don't be a fool.
What is that silver going to do for you?
If SHTF, I am NOT taking silver for trade. Food and ammo is what I will take.
If the whales controlling the metals market divest, you lose your investment.
Silver has no intrinsic value to YOU. Guns and ammo do.
Guns and ammo will never be worth less than what you pay for them, if you invest just as sensibly as you would in anything else.
In fact... if you BUY an ammo press with that money you were going to throw away on junk, you will now have a hobby that makes money.
And I will buy all the .38 Super, 9mm major you can make.
