It can or will cause red patches to form on the baby's skin, it could also cause malnourishment, and probably death.

Red patches indicate blood is escaping from blood vessels.

If the red patches are flat, they could be bruising, indicating a bleeding problem and low platelets.

If the patches are raised, it could be an autoimmune problem showing as a rash.
