I'm curious about the whole "ordered Maori leaders to stop using the Hakka". I mean, a Prime Minister can order certain things within her own government, but ya can't "order" a people to do or not do a cultural tradition.

First things tyrants do when subduing a conquered nation: Forbid them from using their own cultural tradtions such as language, clothing, food, dance, etc. There's a very long history of conquerers doing this.
The PM really stepped in it by trying to order the Maori to stop one of their strongest traditions, and somebody ought to really really rub it in her face. She might as well have called them all the n-word and told them to sit in the back of the bus while she was at it.
