Yes, but if the "real" police don't know that then you're assaulting one of them then they will treat you as if you attacked an official. You'd have to have a higher security clearance to demand the identity of the thug.
The tactic they are abusing is called Compartmentalization:
There are procedures to protect "sensitive operations" and forgive lower-authority figures when they obstruct another agency's plans.
They are abusing these fail-safes in order to protect their tyranny.
So ask the real police who the imposters are and make it a point to POINT THE FRAUDS ALL OUT and SURROUND THE FRAUDS, TURN THE TABLES ON THEM and MAKE CITIZENS ARRESTS ON THEM

Patriot: "Who gave you authority to arrest people?"
Police: "Those guys." Points at thugs
Thugs: "Those guys." Points at police
Neither are actually authorized to arrest anyone, but since they don't know for certain who has granted them authority, you cannot confront them because they are both working on false information but still have the false sense of authority to act against you.
This is like how you might call a credit card fraud department and they direct you to the credit card company who directs you to the credit card fraud team, who direct you to the credit card company -- back and forth until you give up and hang up.

I was really fearing for those poor well meaning but totally uninformed people that were toe to toe with them say's "you're doing this to your brothers and sisters".
