Nixon has had many pluses and minuses during his career. Plus, he exposed Alger Hiss and helped get him convicted. This helped him rise to the vice presidency. Plus, after LBJ was giving Vietnam away, Nixon tried to win it and developed a more aggressive policy in rules of engagement. Plus, he appointed Rehnquist to be CJ. I can't think of too many other pluses and I was in middle and high school during his terms. However, I find more minuses. He hired Kissinger to be Secretary of State. He recognized Red China and visited them 50 years ago this week as another anon posted. He signed the EPA into law which became a big tool for violating property rights. He mandated an unconstitutional wage freeze in an effort to stop inflation. He appointed Ford, who helped cover up info on the Kennedy assignation, to be his VP after Agnew resigned. He started a troop withdrawal from Vietnam before the job was done in 72 to get more votes in his reelection. He let the Ds and the media force him to resign after winning in a landslide just 2 years earlier. This allowed the Ds to betray our troops by letting Vietnam go after he was gone.
I worked in MI from 78 to 81. Some people who were around for the 72 election say his "plumbers" broke into Watergate to get proof on the Ds regarding prostitution and sex trafficking including minors. They failed in this mission and that Nixon threw them under the bus in time. I have no source on this other than what my colleagues in MI told me in 1979.
I make you the jury. Was Nixon a white hat or a black hat?
I don't think Nixon was a great man, but no where nearly as evil as LBJ.
My theory is that LBJ was behind that mess with the USS Liberty and Mossad. He wanted to join the war. Zero morals.
Agree on LBJ. I believe he got in by planning the removal of Kennedy.
I think he was Cabal rst and then he flipped and that's when they decided to get him out of office.
Hillary was on the prosecution team of warriors that went after him for Watergate.
Hillary was kicked off the prosecution team.
Oh I know but she was still on there for a while.
Read 'Family of Secrets' by Russ Baker
One of the best political books ever written with a number of chapters dedicated to Watergate, Nixon and the role of HW Bush.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Like Trump, and Reagan, Nixon had to play on the bad team to even get close enough to win. But as president he was white hat until they took him down.
lbj was kennedys VP...not nixon
Doh! Just edited out that dumb mistake. Thanks.
We'll never know
My brother went into the army the lst year of the Viet Nam war. He went to bootcamp to train for Nam but got sent to Germany instead because Nixon had ended the "war." He read every book Nixon wrote and had a high regard for him. The infantry respected him. So I would vote white hat.
I was going to bring that up, but oldtimers told me that politicians didn't do that then so as to not bring into question the integrity of American elections. You do have a point that Nixon perpetuated this problem.
kennedy was a white hat, which is why they killed him tho
