All I know is that I won't be changing my cookbook with "Chicken Kiev" to Chicken kyiv. Folks can change what they want and call stuff whatever, I'm not changing my #%/!& recipe books!
I expressed my annoyance about people suddenly calling it keev and someone actually said "it's not like chicken Kiev" Where the hell do they think chicken Kiev comes from and how do they even tie their shoes?

I had to look that up myself earlier today after seeing all the news and whatnot spelling it as Kyiv.
To me, it will always be Kiev.
Apparently it's down to pronunciation and a way to differentiate Russian Kiev with Ukranian Kyiv.
Still doesn't sit right with me.

It is pronounced KAY-eve.
The other major cities are Lviv not Lvov (Lev-IV). Kharkov is HAR-kiv.
The name of the country is Ukraine, NOT THE Ukraine pronounced You-CRANE, not YOU-crane.
