Wow, I can't tell you how your title just awakened something in me. You are absolutely correct in that that is the very first thing they are being programmed with. I will be using that phrase from now on as it is the very reason why we need to end this "education" ("programming") system. Can you just imagine what a child could accomplish in their lives if their so called "schooling" was actually something that focused on them achieving their highest dreams and helping to get them there.
I helped my daughter homeschool my grandchildren for a year and I can honestly say it was a wonderful year of both teaching and learning (and I'm not just talking about the kids). We had long and wonderful conversations about history and science and the things that interested them and that led us to even more exciting things. I learned so much about them and how they best learn and it was so much fun to make it fun. It really was an amazing year with them.
I’m glad to hear that fren - that made my post worth it right there. It has started to click in my brain. I’m the resident conspiracy theorist in my house but my wife has been researching unschooling. It aligns very well with everything I’ve been learning. One day when she was explaining it to me, and this idea popped into my head - it clicked. Now I understand how we are ‘consumer-slaves’.
I concur with u/intellectual-darkweb, this is post worthy. Taking back our children really is the way out. Gatto makes the point in his The Underground History of Education (the OP's post graphic) that almost none of our founders were formally educated. Franklin's learning came about from sitting at the table while his father held conversation with interesting guests over diner.
The Colonies devoured more law books than England. Everyone knew the Common Law (which is simple), and how to stand up for their God-given rights. Folks think that the Revolution was about taxation, because that's what government wants us to think it was about. That way they only need to allow us to vote to make us think that we are free. But the war wasn't about taxation, a relatively minor issue, it was about the usurpation of our God-given rights through the removal of the Common Law, and placing us under civil/maritime/contract law.
We as a people must relearn all this. All we know how to do now is beg our government for privileges. We will never be able to put the tyrants back into their place until we come to know our place, that is, at the top. Kids will never hear this in government schools.
I was homeschooled K-12, I look back and remember finishing school took no longer than 2 hours maximum. I then filled my day with plentiful other hobbies. I taught myself to sew by hand, embroidery and Crosstitch just for fun. As an adult, I still use those skills from time to time.
My mom gave us the ability to learn anything by homeschooling my 5 siblings and I.
I’ve been out of University 13 years and I’m proud to say I only spent 2 years total working under a boss. Fuck that shit. I do exactly what I want to do 90% of the day.
Great book illustrating your post OP. The Underground History of Education. In it, Gatto makes the case that the Prussian education system was exactly what the giant capitalists needed in order to train the perfect factory drone workers.
I haven’t read it but have heard about Gatto many times. I’ll add it to my booklist. Grateful for someone like him who kept that truth alive so that we could find it.
I try to point people to Gatto. I’ve read John Holt and others - many quote Gatto. But I haven’t read Gatto himself. Something I need to do.
I hope more wake up to this as well. I’ve been reading Rich Dad Poor Dad and other books on financial freedom. Mindset is 100% the issue. My brain has been programmed to be poor. The more children can be raised 100% free, the stronger our society will be, and the more freedom we will all have.
I watched this John Taylor Gatto interview years ago. He gave a brilliant description of what teaching should be like, and a grim picture of what it is.

It’s time for us all to work towards our freedom.

Well said, thank you 👍👆💥
Love your handle!

That is an awesome life experience. Thanks for sharing.
That's how it should be. Excited curiosity instead of tedious lecturing.
You don't know how envious those in the know are of your experience. Make your teacher proud!

This is the way.

So you were just name dropping with your post? LOL
Gatto is definitely eye-opening, and along the lines of your post.

Awesome!
And if we're not careful, [they] will do the same to us, that [they] did to Prussia, and later, Germany.
That process has already begun.
Agreed. Another Weimar Republic and all it’s horrors.
Depends on one’s definition of “educated”. In the true sense, no. But in the way envisioned by globohomos directing Prussia - yes.
For the globohomos, the entire purpose of ‘education’ is brainwashing. Removal of independent thought.
Woe.
