My local Jeweler has a dedicated bullion department. They sell for 3% over spot price, and buy at spot.
I just bought kilo, bars, 5 oz bars, 1 oz. bars, rounds and coins of .999 fine silver.
if you want a small discount use silvergoldbull.com/ape
Firstmajestic.com also. However they only have kilos and 100 oz bars in stock. Firstmajestic is also a miner so no middle-man. Buying with CC does not incur a higher price.
If you want copper get a coin comparator and put a 1980 cent in it. Then run us cents through to separate the copper from the zinc coins. Pre 1982 us cents are copper after 1982 they are zinc.
Alright, so how can you tell that what you're getting is what you were expecting? Let's say you go buy some gold or silver bars - how do you know they are legit? There must be a way of knowing? Thanks.
Thank you for this. I saw your post asking for help buying metals. I'm interested as well, but was wondering how we know we're getting the real thing when we buy. I also wonder if at some point a person decides to sell, if they can sell back to the coin or metal shop they bought from. I hope you find the info you need to feel comfortable with a purchase.
SD bullion on line. Four purchases from them. Free shipping takes a while but no issues.
JM bullion is similar. Bit more expensive
Call private Jewlers. Many have bullion departments.
I've thought about this, but apparently they have exclusivity contracts that prevent you from buying the straight bullion at comparative rates.
Besides, jeweler's rarely use 100% gold or silver. It's almost always an alloy because the pure metals are too soft to work with.

Alright, I gotta check this out some more then.
JM Bullion is what I’ve used

Most pawn shops deal in silver bullion coins. Recently bought 50 silver maple leafs from one.
Do they sell copper bullion?
I'd actually not be against buying bulk copper as well.
I'm gonna stay away from gold, however. I suspect gold is going to go down in value or stay the same while all other precious metals go supernova.

There are tools you can use that zap metal with an electrical charge and a specialized camera looks at the light generated.
Different metals burn at different colors. Copper, for instance, burns green.
A spectroscope splits the light generated and detects a specific signature of light the material puts out.

Gold always puts out the same signature. If it is an alloy, it will not look the same. This is what gold looks like: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/18/Gold_spectrum_visible.png
