These bastards I swear to God. Why on earth would you do this instead of keeping standard time? Russia already tried this, come winter it leads to massive psychological damage due to lack of sunlight outside work hours. Smh
In this case, I think it's to give us more daylight. The plan is to Spring forward permanently March 2024 giving us those extra hours of light each day, never having to "fall back".
How is there “extra hours” of daylight? The sun doesn’t have a clock.
The purpose used to be for people to have more daylight in the early hours because we were an agrarian society. As the seasons shifted in order to maintain regular hours, the clocks shifted to provide an hour more daylight in the morning and an hour less in the evening. Now we are mostly 8am to 5pm workers. We want daylight in the evenings, not the mornings. Who cares if you drive to work in the dark? We want an hour of daylight when we get home at night to spend with our kids outside.
Kids getting on the bus at 7 am, would you rather their be some light for them or no light at all for about 2 months. We need to keep standard time NOT daylight savings
Farmers don't even use clocks where I'm from. When the sun rises you go tonwork.. when it sets you go home. Winter is no problem because we don't farm in the winter. Not a good explanation.
That's correct I think. I hate the "fall back." It's dark at 4:30 pm in December.
On December 21st the sun rises at 8:44AM and sets at 3:07PM where I am at. If they make daylight savings time permanent it will be dark until 9:44am when the sun rises. They need to keep normal time not daylight savings time.
It is about the kids getting on the bus in the morning, if we dont fall back then it is dark in the mornings for them for about 2 months depending on where you live, whereas if we keep the standard time then they have some light. I think we should get rid of daylight savings time and keep standard time year round. Everybody is looking at this through the lens of themselves after work, we need to think about the kids!!
No! You can't legislate in extra sunlight!
All this does is move an hour of sunlight from the morning to the evening. This makes little difference in the summer when sunlight is plentiful, but come wintertime you're going to see parents complain that their children are either waiting for the bus in the dark, or worse that all the 16-18 year old high schoolers driving to school in the dark are causing an uptic in accidents.
Apparently, I'd just looked it up earlier today, Congress went to full DST in 1973, and predictably the fake news NY Times shilled for the change prior and called it "stupid" after, and the whole thing was a complete disaster and was swiftly repealed after 8 months.
I'm telling you now, it was a bad idea then, and it is a bad idea now!
Standard time year round is what we need, thank you for sharing your take!
If you lock into daylight savings time, that would become standard time. By keeping this DST as normal time, there would be more light at the end of the work day.
Which is not good for kids getting on the bus in winter time, we need to keep standard time year round!
Go to school later.
Making schools start later results in work starting later for the vast majority of 8 to 5's, with us winding up at standard time.
Kids have always already stood in the dark for the bus or drove to school in the dark. I did for basically all of my high school years for sure. It's realistically not going to change anything in regards to that.
Right but the difference is whether it is 2 months or 4 months. Unnecessary increased risk for our kids.
Maybe that’s the point
Then change the work hours in the winter. We act so stupid sometimes.
