It is normal to suspend trade in a stock when the company expects to make a price-sensitive announcement. The purpose for trading halt is to allow the news to be released to all shareholders equally - all shareholders have access to the same pricing information when the market is open. Otherwise some shareholders would gain an unfair advantage over others from how close they are to the source of news.
You do have the official story. Basically, this allows the elites a little more time for duplicity, fuckery, narative changes, and anything else they can think of :)
This doesn't actually protect against that though; additionally, it serves as an attempt to screw over people who see it coming before said announcement.
Insider trading is happening all over the world, including our own government, and these methods don't actually stop it. It just makes it harder for the little guy to participate.
The movie Margin Call portrays the backroom dealings terrifically. The CEO doesn't hear music in the report, sell everything in the morning... But, the top guys are the only ones to win..
I always find it interesting that you can stop people from trading shares.
Almost like the whole thing is a manipulable farce across the board.

Exactly... the market is rigged for them to win BIGLY and everyone else not to win.
There's definitely enough stuff going on right now to wake up everyBODY.
You would think!
You mean like the many in Congress like Pelosi who make a fortune from insider trading?
You have to remember, although immoral, congress passed a law many decades ago, the federal legislature is exempt from insider trading laws.
Isn't that lovely? 🙄
They also passed a law that exempts them from perjury charges!
So convenient for them 🙄

The "market" is indeed a farce, a way to launder money to make a few people filthy rich, and for idiots like us to make them rich.
It has saved more small investors than it will harm.
Imagine if a company could just lie about its gains, trick investors, then cash out their own shares...
