I guess it depends on the video game. The ability to originate, however, is dumbed down--which is my own personal opinion.
There's games with multiple solutions to one problem so origiation still happens in gamers. Even in more passive games there's scenarios where outside the box thinking is required
Then there's moments where it's reflexes and sheer will (like in sports)

to further explain, when the player using Chun Li activated their super they probably felt it was in the bag, expecting Daigo would parry one but not all the hits
Call me old and stodgy, but I just think the entertainment factor, addiction techniques, lack of human to human interaction, etc. make video games an inferior choice for how to spend one's time, especially for children who are still in their formative years.
Friends bond over playing games together.
I am not against video games carte blanche... I made a simple comment about those very young boys based on my assumption that they are playing a video game that's probably mindless (and inappropriate for their age) and gamers come out of the woodwork. Listen, TV was the beginning of the breakdown of family culture, and video games were the beginning of the breakdown of the individual--and that's my opinion with no sauce... just based on common sense and observation.
