My wife and I were foster care parents. We were not "well paid".
At the time we were given $8-$12 a day to take care of the kids. (depending on the age)
The kids showed up with no clothes except for what they had on their backs.
they were dirty, hungry and a little freaked out.
As soon as possible my wife would go out and buy them a new wardrobe of clothes, diapers, toys, food and whatever else she thought they needed.
Trust me, that cost way more than $8-$12 a day.
Just to be clear we were given something like $150-$200 per kid to buy them clothes when they first showed up.
If you think that even back then that $150-$200 even comes close to buying all new clothes and stuff for a kid you have never shopped for kids stuff.
It was never about the money. It was an opportunity to help kids that pretty much have nothing. It was an opportunity to show them that they are loved no matter what the world tells them.
We never knew if we would have the kids for two weeks, two months or two years. All we knew is we had them that day and we were going to do our best to let them see how a real family lives.
I think that the one thing that hurt my wife the most were people (her friends) telling her they could not do what she does because it would break their hearts to have to return the kids to a bad situation. They have no idea how much she cried over these kids.
We knew the cost to our hearts but we were willing to do whatever it took if it meant that even one child would know that they are not alone and that they are loved even if they don't see the one loving them.
We would have done the same thing without the money. I can only speak for myself but hopefully there are many others that would do the same thing.
This was 2 decades ago. We adopted 3 of the kids and they still live with us.
Yes I have seen how people would take the money and give the kids next to nothing. I do not know how people can do that kind of thing and live with themselves but they do.
From what I could see the foster care system is set up just like anything else in government. It has nothing to do with what is best because the government can't define what is best. Just like now how they can't define what a women is.
People working in the system were overwhelmed with cases. Each foster care kid was just a number.
I can easily see how someone can weasel into the system and do some nasty things.
It is almost as if the system was set up to overwhelm the employees that really care so that they did not have time to see anything that was going on outside of their workload.
Yes there is much abuse in the foster care system. Just don't forget that there are many people that are trying their best to do the right thing.
Not defensive at all. I completely agree with the article.
From my point of view the problem is not the system it is the fact that we want the government to step in and take care of these kids. We do not want the personal responsibility of taken care of them ourselves.
Then we are shocked when the government does what the government always does.
The problem is not the government. The problem is we allow the government to even be involved in something like this in the first place.
We as a nation have turned our back on God. We have allowed man to replace God. We have allowed the government to be masters in everything in our lives.
The Great Awakening is much more than we think it is.

Do not let this information allow the pro-aborties to convince you that killing the baby before it's born is a better outcome than being born and maybe being placed in foster care or adopted. Every child deserves the right to life, and it's up to us to make their lives as safe and loving as they can be.
Perhaps our time would be better spent encouraging God-fearing families to work within the foster care system to assist their communities rather than instilling fear and disdain for the system. No families would prefer to be involved in the foster care system, and you know who else really doesn't want to be in the foster care system? Foster kids. If every Christian family who said they wanted to adopt actually did so, we would break the foster care system.
Are there bad actors in the foster care system? Yep. But the four kids I adopted aren't affected by those people.

God bless you. I pray the majority of foster parents are like you but I fear they are not. And Children Services don’t seem to protect the children.
May God abundantly bless you and your precious wife. The world needs folks like you
You needn’t be so defensive. This post isn’t about you.
