Pick up litter, plant trees, paint properties owned by seniors or vacant. Garden, landscape, tidy. This creates the perception of good will and value in a place. I don't have any, I am poor and rather disabled, plus I am in my 70's. I rely on the goodness of the good Lord above to protect and guide me, and he does despite my tardiness to thank him for all he has done for me.
Have cash, silver and tradeable goods. Stock up on food, seeds, bottled water, alcohol, soap, ammo, candles, fuel. Dig out the wheat grinder that's in the garage. Ordered a supply of wheat. Start some sourdough and learn to bake bread. Maintain my veggie garden and keep planting more throughout the growing season. Develop good relationships with the neighbors. I recently found a website that has a map for spring water sources in a worst case scenario and our tap water becomes contaminated, it's 30 miles from home but it's free, clean spring water. Check it out and see if there's a location near you. findaspring.com
Why? If you are the last living person on the block, wouldn't it be reasonable to go into these vacant houses to see if there are things which could sustain your life? That would be my goal...survival, not worrying about dead peoples sensibilities.
