I am sure Elon can do it now, but relying on the Russians for that critical role was galactic blackmail. They could have always used that as a bargaining chip to get almost whatever they wanted.

God says we are covered by a firmament that he stretched out over the Earth, like a tent, so that's what I believe, now that I have been enabled to see how that works. Don't tell anybody, but it seems we might be living in something that slightly resembles a very large snowglobe.
I actually saw a rocket go into space with my own eyes, SpaceX Falcon 9 was visible for 600 miles and it went straight up and I never saw any “bounce”.
Hint: the space program was mostly an effort to build reliable and accurate missiles that could be used to deliver the nuclear weapons anywhere in the world. The same technology that can launch an ICBM can also carry a couple of people into low Earth orbit when you put them on top instead of a nuclear warhead. So it makes perfect sense that the nuclear powers of the time would be spending so much time and money on developing a "space race" that was truly just about making accurate military missile technology.
