I am not a vet or wild life biologist, but I live in the stix and have had a few rabid animals on my property. Two foxes in particular … they were the literal opposite of aggressive. May have been in a ‘stage’ or something, but you could literally walk up to them and they wouldn't move, growl, nothing. It was kinda heartbreaking. They were just ‘catatonic’ kind of.
My point … I have a very hard time believing there was a ‘rabid fox’ in the middle of a big city … let alone one attacking people.
I know at least with humans rabies makes you afraid of water to the point where you literally can't drink water and become super dehydrated. Maybe they were at that stage.
I know someone that had an encounter with a bat that had rabies. The only reason they were treated for rabies was because they had lots of cuts and scratches on their hands (from being a mechanic) and in the process of fending it off, killing it and bringing it to the lab the cuts may have gotten spittle/foam in them.
The rabid fox that was hanging out near the farmers market, looked very mangy, was foamy at the mouth and was very skittish... it look animal control a long time to catch it... like a week or more.
Hmmmm....I remember a few offspring that had a very difficult time when their Daddy was put down like a dog and given a traitor's funeral. In fact, I think Jeb suffered a heart attack he never recovered from.

Yes. Rabies affects animals differently, AND it has stages. I read up since this first comment
With a glossy coat and fluffy tail to boot.

I remember back when the press was rabid over GWB, calling him dumb, etc., there was a quote by Bill Clinton where he said GWB was dumb like a fox.
