I've been buying my older coworker Menthol Newports for the past year now since his state banned them. Guy hasn't been to the doctor in 30+ years, and drinks 5-6 Molsens every night. He hasn't been sick in years.
Me, been sick twice in the past 3 months but the kids bring illnesses home from school regularly.
I'm not advocating his lifestyle, but something doesn't add up. 🤷♂️
I knew several old guys in my hometown who started smoking at 16, multiple packs a day, and died of a car accident or some other farm accident in their mid to late 90's. One guy was in his mud 80's and would sit on his porch and take a drag off his cigarette, and then put his oxygen mask back on for a second, and then switch it back and forth till he had smoked through his pack. He only got the oxygen lit on fire a few times. LoL. My belief is that some of us are built to withstand more shit than others. Genetics, upbringing, environment, etc. I've known some pretty frail older guys, and some old guys that were built like clydesdales.
That's awesome. Your granny was obviously born before the tidal wave of vaccines started being pushed on everyone in the 60's and 70's, she likely avoided others as their home remedies (like daily cod liver oil) worked so well in her family.
My coworker had a traumatizing experience as a kid in the dentist chair and NEVER went to any doctor again afterward. No shots, no dentist, no nurses, nuffin.
Same, mentally filed it in the "that's odd" category. When I mentioned the smoking bit to the family, one of them said (of the smokers), "See, I knew it would be good for something."
I vividly remember the talk early on about how smokers didn't seem to be affected as much, because I'm a smoker I noticed this.
And the Al WIlson song "The snake" at the end of many Trump rallies, curious.

Being happy counts for a lot!
