I’ve been doing some searching on DIY products to make, to get away from some of the brand name soaps, hair products, cleaning products, bug repellants health/remedies products and some food recipes. In many of the links for recipes, make sure to scroll down to bottom of pages to read comments, some people will give other alternatives to some of the ingredients or other tidbits worth reading.
I got carried away with all this and with the benefits of essential oils, once you start seeing all the benefits of them you can’t help but to keep searching to see what they can do health wise.
~Dr. Bronner’s castile DIY shampoo:
I haven’t tried a lot of things yet, but what I have tried is shampoo using Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap. It does take some getting used to because after washing your hair feels different than when using store bought shampoo. I feel it’s best to use the DIY apple cider rinse (recipe below) after washing hair, for softer and tangle free feel after hair is dry (I blow dry my hair so don’t know if that makes a difference). Here’s how I make these along with a website to show other ways to make shampoo also:
~1 can of coconut milk ~1 cup and a half of liquid castile soap (I use Dr. Bronner's castile soap) ~10 drops essential oil (whatever scent you like, use 100% essential oil)
Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl. Use a glass bottle for storage since the essential oils require it. You can also put it in a plastic bottle if you don’t have it.
~Dr. Bronner has a line of products ready to use or you can buy the Castile Soap to make your own products. I like their bar soap, castile soaps & toothpaste (this toothpaste does not lather, so if you like your toothpaste to lather don’t buy this brand). The soaps do lather up really nice. Haven’t tried their other items yet. Dr. Bronner's castile soap website...
~You can also buy Dr. Bronner's castile soap & other products online at Walmart. I haven't seen their products in store in my area. The bar soap is great though a little expensive at over $3 a bar. Sometimes our grocery store has a few bars. You can also find the products on amazon (did not link).

~Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse:
~If you want to do the apple cider vinegar rinse, this is the recipe I use on my hair. I just washed out an empty plastic syrup bottle (maybe a 24 oz bottle), works great, my hair is a little long (mid-back length), so if you have shorter hair, you can use less if you want. I found that lavender works great with the ACV, however you can use any scent of essential oils you like (make sure they are 100% pure essential oil) ...
~2 - 3 tablespoons ACV
~few drops of lavender or whatever type of essential oil you prefer, add as little or much scent as you prefer. A little bit of essential oil can go a long way.
~water (fill up the container with warm/hot water).
I usually just put in the ACV & essential oil in bottle, put the cap on and fill the bottle in the shower so the water will be same temp.
~And here’s something I do for hand soap:
I usually use dawn dish soap (probably can use any liquid soap but I’ve only tried it with dawn), water & essential oil mixed together in a foam pump soap bottle. I also add a few drops of vitamin E, but like the essential oil it’s optional.
Here are some DIY stuff to try if things get hard to buy or if you would just like to try making your own:
~~Body, hair & teeth care: *Shampoo & hair rinse
I shared above a recipe I used, here's some other recipes also ... https://www.belletag.com/beauty/hair/homemade-shampoo-recipes https://www.littleloveliesbyallison.com/homemade-shampoo-recipes/
Citrus Vinegar Hair Rinse
Vinegar makes a wonderful conditioning hair rinse, whether you’re using homemade no-poo, or just want shiny, healthy, pH-balanced hair. The addition of lemon to your homemade conditioning rinse will help keep a greasy scalp and hair under control while improving dull hair and resolving many scalp issues. Add the peels of several lemons to a jar and fill almost to the top with apple cider vinegar. Allow it to sit for 1-2 weeks and strain out peels. Add about 1 tablespoon of this citrus vinegar solution to 1 cup of water and use it as a conditioning rinse after shampooing. Allow the rinse to remain on the hair for a few minutes, then rinse out or just leave in.

Mosquito repellant*
Homemade Mosquito Repellent: A Natural DIY Mosquito & Insect Repellent (diynatural.com)

Haven’t tried the above mosquito repellents yet but if you happen to get bit by a mosquito, I found holding a cotton ball or paper towel saturated with apple cider vinegar to bite helps it go away, especially if you put it on not long after getting bit.
Also, I’ve used with some success for gnats in the house. Mix water, apple cider vinegar, tiny bit of regular sugar & a few drops of dawn dish soap. Put it in little containers and set in areas that you have issues with gnats. You can make enough into separate little container/s or make a big batch to store for refilling containers later. Check it every few days to see if you need to top it off with water &/or ACV as it will evaporate. Once you catch plenty of gnats, throw the mixture out, rinse your container and add fresh mixture and set out again. I even put some out near my container vegetables and it helped attract the gnats away from the plants (try not to let the liquid mixture get into your plants as it may kill them). You can also put some plastic wrap over the container tightly, then poke a few holes in plastic wrap just big enough for the gnats to crawl through.

Personal addition for laundry detergent, what you'll need is food processor and cheese grater:
1 bar of fels-naptha
1 cup of borax
1 cup of arm & hammer laundry booster (powder)
Grate the enitre bar of Fels-Naptha. Add the borax and arm & hammer into the processor and blend until fine. Then add the grated fels-Naptha and blend (you may have to do this in halfs if your processor isn't big enough).
You'll only need 2 tbs per load and it'll be the cleanest laundry you've ever done. I also use essential oils on dryer wool balls (1-3 per load depending) usually just like 6-8 dabs of oil on one ball. Thats only if I want extra scent because the natural scent from the powder is soooooo nice.
I've been making this laundry detergent for years! Works great.
Thanks for the addition!
Amazing post. You should be getting paid for this. Just a small addition here. It's from Natural News/ Mike Adams, I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but some good info here regardless and there's a PDF you can print out. https://report.survivalnutrition.com/survivalnutrition.html
As long as it doesn't leave clothes smelling sour once you start sweating, I'm down to try this. I work outside and I know some of my coworkers make their own laundry soap. But once they start sweating or get wet, they smell sour. It's not their scent, as the smell comes from their clothing.
The key ingredient in Oxy-Clean is Chlorine dioxide solution (CDS) among other chemicals. CDS is an anti-parasite (de-wormer) just like Ivermectin and HCQ. CDS has been shown to cure 'COVID', malaria, and is used in some city municipal water treatment instead of chlorine for potable drinking water. I don't know what else is in Oxy-clean so I'd advise not to ingest it.
This would be interesting to know. I’m a very hot sleeper, literal oven (my wife is jealous I literally burn calories while sleeping 😂)- wake up soaked. Would hate to have the bedroom smell sour!
I gave up Tide almost five years ago on my clothes. Now everything is washed with national detergent. I don’t make it. There’s many good brands on the market if you don’t want to make it. Some that are marked as “clean & non toxic” might have some ingredients that cause cancer or skin irritations. (Mainly big brands like Seventh Generation.) I’m not saying that brand causes cancer! Some brands might have artificial fragrance. My husband sweats very bad if he’s been working around the house or outside. Heck I sweat also, hot flashes! I’ve never had clothes smell sour.
Quite the opposite. Clean doesn't have a smell but the soap smell from this permeates through all the fabric and I use it on my work out clothes as well. This is going to be the first summer I use it on "outdoor work" clothes so I will let you know!
What is fels naptha?
I didn't know what this was either, but just did a search on it and found this site.
https://originalhomesteading.com/fels-naptha-soap/
This is a pretty good description: https://originalhomesteading.com/fels-naptha-soap/
Borax is a good, very inexpensive thing to keep around for a number of things. We are on a septic, so we throw about a 1/2 cup of it with laundry detergent instead of bleach. Great for cleaning toilet and bath tub too and add it to a little Dawn for washing floors. Also use it as an any trap, make 1/8 or 3/16 holes in an throw away plastic yogurt container and put a mix 1/2 and 1/2 Borax and jelly (I use grape) in the container. The ants actually take it back to the nest where it can kill all of them, but i put it in the container so ours, or anyone else honey bees don't get into it too.
Did you know they banned Borax in Australia. The political claim is because it is toxic, which is an absolute falsehood. Chemically it is classified as a 'salt' and is actually safer than table salt for ingesting. I've been taking it internally for over 20 years. It has completely reversed my arthritis in my shoulders and knees. There are at least 3 other people who reported back to me saying it reversed their arthritis too. Read the Borax Conspiracy and it will give an indication on utterly evil the medical/pharmaceutical industry really is. Most people lack boron in their diets, which causes arthritis to occur. Boron is required for good health, sexual drive, among other purposes.
For sick family members I'll run a warm/hot bath with epsom salts (magnesium), methyl sulfonyl methane (MSM), and a tablespoon of Borax. Always seems to make everyone feel better. Not a cure, just something nice. I've heard good things about boron. I'll pass what you said about arthritis on! Also: stinging nettle rubbed straight onto arthritic joints....I just saw this the other day and thought it was pretty incredible.
Did you read the linked article-- The Borax Conspiracy" It's well worth your read. There are links for 26 sourced studies in that article. The article explains the cause of the arthritis in the first place. People develop arthritis as a result of nor getting enough boron in their diets. Nettles only soothes the pain and doesn't cure it.
I don't think I should take borax. Not sure my sexual drive can take any more revving up!!! hahahajajaja
It's not Spanish Fly, but does help in the maintenance of testosterone.
Good to know! Because of stuff I have read here and other places I started 12MG of Ivermectin a week and it did wonders for my own arthritis. While I still wake with a bit of ache, it's more the muscles than the joints and in no time once moving it's gone too. Now maybe I'll add Borax to the diet! Do you take the 20 Mule Team stuff, and how much how often?
A Boron supplement will reduce the daily loss of calcium by nearly 50%. As this calcium is withdrawn mainly from your bones and teeth, Boron deficiency may be the most important factor in causing arthritis, osteoporosis and tooth decay today.
Research has shown that the medical focus on high CALCIUM supplemental intake is a prescription for ACCELERATED AGING…
They really do want you sick and dead.
Here's how to make it.
Dissolve a lightly rounded teaspoonful (5-6 grams) of Borax in 1 quart of filtered water. (Pour a small amount of hot water in the quart jar first and stir to dissolve; then fill the jar with cold, filtered water.) This is your concentrated solution, keep it out of reach of small children.
Borax has a density of about 1.71 grams/cc so we need to find out what volume of borax 30 grams is. The 30 grams divided by 1.71 g/cc equals 17.544 cc. A cc is equal to about 0.2029 teaspoons, so 17.544 cc times 0.2029 equals about 3.56 teaspoons of borax. 30 grams/3.56 tsp = 8.43 grams per tsp.
For the Standard Dose: 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of concentrate. This has 25 to 30 mg of Borax and provides approximately 3 mg of Boron. If you have no specific health problems or for maintenance you may consume with 1 or 2 teaspoons daily.
So,the ratio for every 5 ml of concentrate of borax is 5ml = 3g boron. 10ml would equal 6g boron, and 15ml equals 9 mg boron,......5ml/3g = 1.67ml/g boron
I take 50 to 60ml of borax solution, which equals 60ml / (1.67ml/g) = 36g boron daily.
[The traditional French diet provides about 36 mg of boron per day, and most other traditional diets using organic (no chemical fertilizer) fruits and vegetables would deliver a similar amount of boron.]
If you DO have health problems such as arthritis, osteoporosis and related conditions such as, joint-pain, cramps, spasms, or stiffness, menopause, and also to improve low sex hormone production, increase the intake to 1 – 3 Tablespoons (depending on your size and how you feel after taking the doses.) Space-out these doses over the day for several months or longer until you feel that your problem has sufficiently improved. Then drop back to 1 or 2 teaspoons per day for maintenance.
Closely monitor how you feel and adjust accordingly. Stopping the doses for a couple of days per week can be a good protocol, or take one week per month off and then start the doses again. Pay attention to how you feel.
By the way if the Boron-Magnesium cure for the above mentioned diseases should become widely known, the vital income stream for the pharmaceutical Industry would dry up and the system would collapse. Since Big Pharma is the biggest and most profitable industry in the world they will do anything in their power to prevent this from happening.
Any tips on how to use it to clean toilets and bath tub? Do you mix it with citric acid for limescale?
