915 million acres
. . . in the United States is farmland.
So, 242,000 acres is 0.026%.
(approximately 190,000 acres of farmland owned by Chinese interests)
The biggest number I found is 37.6 million acres, or about 2.9% of the nation's total farm, ranch and forest land, were under foreign ownership in 2020
Another way of looking at it...
This is less than 20 miles square; the size of a small metro area but much less than the typical Midwest county. (640 acres per square mile.)
The value of that is a different story; assuming it's undeveloped land (rangeland to cropland) it would be $500/ac in AZ to $20,000/ac in IA. If it's commercial or residential potential, easily 5x that.

Bill is probably going to grow pot. Or maybe he will raise poisonous snakes.
Seeing photos of him lately, he may just be afraid of running out of food for himself.
ha ha!
Maybe he needs lands to bury bodies?
He seems to favor Louisiana, where the climate is right.

One source (somewhat dated - I'll look for an up-to-date version):

Thanks for helping put this in perspective.
