Indeed, many founding fathers would have supported freeing the slaves, but the southern colonies wouldn't have joined the Revolution.
we often romanticize history, making it black or white, but history is just as grey as the present. good mixed with bad.
it wasn't that they were southern per say, it was two-fold. they were states controlled by democrats, or people who would eventually become democrats, and they relied on free labor to make their agrarian lifestyle profitable. to them it was the human-powered agrarian machine.
the Northern states, did not rely on slavery since they were not agrarian, they were the first in America to undergo the American industrial revolution. there was no need for slaves. and many in the north would identify as whigs, then as republicans.
In the North, even before 1776, we had Black preachers, preaching to white congregations, and in the south we had Free Blacks who owned Black slaves. the first or one of the first people to own slaves in the US was black.
The entire time there was moral term oil over slavery. When Missouri was being founded people were in an uproar over the future of America and if it would be a country of slavery. this lead to the Missouri compromise
Throughout the slavestates Democrats would often enact several gun laws to try and disarm slaves (they too could own and use guns) some states restricted them to only have possession with express permission from their masters, others outright banned it.
inthe late 1850s in ohio the DNC split the party into two. the north and the south. they both wanted slavery but the north wanted to continue the current trend where slavery is decided when a new state us created, making slavery a state by state issue. the southern democrats wanted slavery to be federalized and made legal in all states. (sounds like typical democrats), this fractured the party.
the democrat-created wilmot proviso removed the missouri compromise, and getting closer to the 1860s many states began restricting gun ownership in fear of a civil war.
since the democrat party was now split with votes they had half the voting power. this is what gave the needed advantage for the republicans to win with Abraham Lincoln.
from here there is a civil war, and if we are to believe certain theories, These united states of America becomes THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Too bad you don't know much about the history of slavery in America. But good try.
Hi I study american history as a hobby. I am a hobbiest historian, and making a website on American history from 1718 to 2022 why do you say such nonsense?
Freeing slaves was always on the roadmap even after the revolution, and in principle there was agreement. The implementation was going to take a long time, both from the point of view of the freed slaves, the society and the economy. However, the Cabal did exactly what they did with BLM, it was no different. There was a reason there were more than one media people who were hung after the war.
Also, the institution of slavery was very different than what we are told. Yes, there were a fraction who treated them savagely, but for the most part they were treated humanely. The best glimpse at what the real relationship was that I could gather was a passage from a story about Thomas Jefferson, where many of his slaves were treated like family and even travelled with him to Europe and what not.
