I know it is an unpopular opinion here, but it's coming and no amount of complaining or whining will stop it. Electric cars will win in the capitalist marketplace because they are require much less maintenance and are smooth and quiet.
You can bluster all you want about the power grid, about how bad lithium batteries are for the environment, about how long it takes to charge a battery.
But please realize that battery tech has been improving my entire life. We can building more power plants. It isn't rocket science. As demand increases, in a capitalist society it creates incentive for capital to flow in and create more supply.
Tech is moving forward. You can't stop it with memes or tee-hee pictures of people charging their Telsas with diesel generators. It is just a fact.
You're being quixotic. The elites don't want us to drive electric cars. They want to radically reduce automobile ownership and force everyone to take public transportation. Here's the skinny on Electric Vehicles (EVs):
Starting price is about $60 thousand. The range for a brand new fully charged battery is 300 miles. After the first charge the mileage will lessen with every charge. The frequency of charging the battery along with the amount of time to charge increases as time goes on.
An Electric Vehicle (EV) will lose about 50% of their power in freezing temperatures.
Fast charging an EV ( about 30 to 50 minutes) is BAD for the battery and will shorten its life.
Charging on 120 volt takes THREE DAYS!!!
Charging on 1220 Volt takes all night.
EV manufacturers say to not leave your EV in the sun all day as heat is bad for the battery( yes they are that fragile ).
Well informed people know that the rare earth metals necessary to build EVs come at 90% from China which means China holds the battery industry by the balls.
Lithium is a comparatively rare element, although it is found in many rocks and some brines, but always in very low concentrations. The lithium extraction process uses a lot of water—approximately 500,000 gallons per metric ton of lithium. It takes between 12 and 18 months of an evaporation process, the mixture is filtered sufficiently that lithium carbonate can be extracted. Lithium prices doubled between 2016 and 2018 due to exponentially increasing demand.
Most cobalt or lithium mines are in poor nations where workers are underpaid and mistreated PLUS mining for those uses billions of gallons of water that is then contaminated and rejected in the environment (so much for pollution!).
During the Obama-Biden administration, hydraulic fracturing was accused of causing a number of environmental problems—faucets on fire, contamination of drinking water, etc.—but the administration’s own Environmental Protection Agency could not validate those accusations. Mining and processing of lithium, however, turns out to be far more environmentally harmful than what turned out to be the unfounded issues with fracking.
Lithium-ion batteries can go into a “thermal runaway” due to a production error or damage. It is an irreversible process in which the battery will ignite, resulting in the release of toxic gases, flash flames and some explosions. Due to the increase in the number of incidents involving lithium-ion batteries, insurers are increasing premiums and asking companies to take adequate security measures. In EVs, think of the vehicle accidents and the danger. Know that Lithium battery fires and accidents are on the rise and present risks. Even disposal of Lithium batteries have caused a number of fires and explosions in consumer products and at recycling plants in the U.S.
It's a big con game for ending private ownership of automobiles and to force the public to take mass transportation. This will be forced on us just like the face masks and 'COVID' vaxx. Most people will not be able to afford or depend on EVs. Biden said 2 years ago he was going to put the oil industry out of business. Today, SoT Buttigieg confirmed forcing the public to take mass transportation is in fact their plan.
It takes 500 thousand pounds of earth to make ONE Electric Vehicle Battery! 1. A cost that is NOW moving towards $300,000 for a replacement battery. 2. NO PLAN FOR HANDLING CORROSIVE EV BATTERY WASTE. 3. Ok, people! You can’t be THAT STUPID unless you are being bribed. 4. The People are aware that this whole EV push is part of the WEF Great Reset which we are NOT having.
Higher ups are really pushing for electric vehicles. Union Pacific was told to decrease their shipment of fuel by 20% and 50%. Why? Here is the real reason why gas prices are so high. "CEO Of Pilot & Flying J Exposes The Truth To Why Diesel Prices Are High At Truck Stops"
Fast charging is usually only bad on a battery after 70-80%.
This is because the batteries heat up from the pressure.
If you keep a reasonable charging pace and keep the battery below a certain temperature, you should be able to preserve the life.
And your point is? Look, EVs are a carrot leading to a dead end. The ruling cabal don't want you to own an automobile. They are going to force every one to take mass transit. The police state demands it.
I love my plug-in hybrid. I drive on electric all the time.
It doesn't take 3 days to charge. More like 2.5 hours.
Battery tech will improve. When I was young the only battery tech was lead-acid and carbon-zinc.
Please listen to me. No matter what happens with politics, the marketplace is going to chose electric cars.
There is nothing can be done about it. It is unstoppable.
Being upset with me won't help. I'm sure if you like gasoline engines you will be able to buy ICE engines for the rest of your life.
And battery tech will improve. IDK why this seems so hard for patriots to understand.
It is Capitalism. Money flows in. More researchers get hired. They figure this stuff out.
I get it that you don't like electric cars because you think it is a leftist thing. A libtard thing. But I'm trying to tell you that it is a capitalist thing. They are just better. I love my car, it is freaking awesome. I've been to the gas station maybe 6 times in 2.5 years. I pay almost nothing for electricity.
The marketplace will decide, not blustering on the internet.
You've missed the entire point I made above. The EV is a planned dead end. The elites do not want anyone to own a vehicle. This is why the price of EVs are only going up from the starting price of $60,000 upwards. No one will be able to afford them. The battery technology will not be allowed to improve because the real plan is for every one to take mass transit. Get your bicycle ready.
This is being accomplished by design. If you are wondering about it, read up on the 'Invention Secrecy Act', then become familiar with 35 U.S.C. 181; the so-called 'Secrecy of Certain Inventions and Withholding of Patent'.
As an example, did you know in 1971, energy conversion systems were subject to review and possible restriction if they offered conversion efficiencies “in excess of 70-80%.” How much has changed from that time to the present?
Why does the U.S. Patent office use a provision allowing them to slap a "national security" gag order on a patent application? Many energy technologies have disappeared through this means. How many inventions have been confiscated and disappeared?
At the end of fiscal year 2015, there were an accumulation of 5,579 invention secrecy orders in effect. In that year alone there were 95 new secrecy orders imposed. Only 36 prior orders have ever been rescinded. The uptick of secrecy orders has exploded in the last 20 years.
What is the total number today?
If you really believe we already have the best technology available, you live in a world where the oxen drawn cart is the best driver-less technology that can found. The marketplace will not decide. Government decides, especially when it is fascist. Being naive and quixotic is believing your negotiation with the firing squad will somehow work.
^^ This, 100%. If you're on a Q-centric forum, u/Lapstrake, you need to start looking at a 40,000 foot view. u/Tewdryg is absolutely right and has the receipts to back it up. Nice information btw Tewdryg!
The elites are controlling humanity and government dictates policy (ICE -> EVs, in this instance), then crony capitalism CEOs do their bidding - they're all in the club and the useless eaters are NOT in it. They all push the "going green" bullshit to get people to consent and buy into the narrative. "Peak oil" narrative....it changes every couple of years.
The Cabal has been lying to humanity for centuries. We absolutely have the technology available for better batteries/EVs and better ICEs and shit we don't even know about. It's all about control, like Tewdryg stated. EVs are an excellent way to control the eaters (social credit score not high enough -> no charging for you) and/or price them out of personal transportation. Nobody is saying that you can't have your EVs if that's what you're happy with - just don't force that bullshit on people who want ICE vehicles. There is more than enough oil, there is likely better ICE technology and/or fuel source for them. Again, suppressed and hidden by the elites.
I agree.
But I think the electric car will win out because it doesn't matter when the energy comes from. That is an issue that is handled by the locality. Could be from coal, or from nuclear power, or natural gas, or anything else.
Batteries need improvement, you are right on that. If they can't solve that problem that would mean swapping them out. There are a lot of problems with trying to do that.
I could see utility of plug in hybrid which would take far less battery materials 10x less than a strict EV. Charge is to cover first 30miles of driving which is 80%or more of many people’s commutes. Also potential use of vehicle in reverse as a backup generator for your house.
Thanks for sharing your experience and opinion, even if it’s unpopular.
It's not coming in the sense you think.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, will want to charge their car if there's a long wait. At first they'll be fine. But slogging through NJ traffic, just to sit at a station for 45 minutes or more is just an insurmountable pain in the ass.
In order for electric to be the people's choice, you need to charge that battery from empty to full in less than 10 minutes. We are 10 years from that technology being available in an "affordable" package {under $60,000}. I'd go a step further and say the sweet spot is under 45000, but hey, that's just me.
In 10 to 15 years time the world will be a very different place and electric may be passed by altogether at that point.
You charge it at home at overnight while you sleep. That works for the vast majority of people.
Of course but if a majority of cars are electric, as the nothing can stop the electric car movement people will tell you is coming, not every single person will do that. Look at how many nitwits are constantly looking to charge their phones.
And let's say 75% of people do charge them overnight. The other 25% are going to create nothing but bottlenecks because of the time it takes to charge, not because of sheer quantity of cars.
In the suburbs? Maybe. In urban areas you might as well forget it
I wonder how ordering "options" for an EV will affect the total weight of the car thus reducing the mph or cause a strain/drag on the electric battery.
All valid points fren.
Battery tech needs to improve. But battery tech has been improving steadily through our lifetimes, right? It isn't going to just freeze in 2022.
You can't stop it just because you think it is a lefty thing. It is coming because of capitalism. Electric cars are just superior. I know it will take time to wrap your head around it, but if you can't, it won't matter.
They are going to win in the marketplace, and arguing on the internet won't make the slightest difference.
Superior with respect to which design factors?
Range in Hot and cold weather? Disaster readiness? How would EVs work in disaster scenarios such as hurricanes taking down grid for a time? Or traveling home in a blizzard?
What would act as strategic energy reserve for transportation if not oil? If grid were to be disabled for extended time such as a solar flare or EMP event, how would those cars be charged? I assume diesel gen-sets, then we would have to have backups gen-sets everywhere and logistics train to upkeep them.
Then there is problem of dealing with EVs in accidents and fires.
Somewhat case in point, I got a new lawnmower this weekend. I had looked at them a couple of years ago and saw maybe 2 electric battery powered mowers. This time, the electrics were 2/3 of their selection.
Oh no, I want electric cars. I always have. I hate posting for gas. But my main point of contention is by the time batteries get to where we need it for mass adoption, tech will have moved on. There will be competing technologies which goes to your point-tech CAN'T be stopped.
I see the market being splintered again when a new tech comes along something like hydrogen or who knows what
We already have a power grid which can deliver energy to every home and business in the US. It is not up to the task of powering all vehicles now but that can be fixed.
This is why electric cars are going to take over once the battery tech is improved.
To an electric car, it doesn't matter how you generate the energy. You don't need a whole new infrastructure and distribution center. My car is powered mostly by the Niagra River. Yours might be from the coal power plant. If I lived a little to the northwest, my car would be powered by nuclear fission.
Ha ha ha ha. Cognitive Dissonance has captured your feeble mind.
They want us dependent on the grid then they’ll shut it off whenever they want. You have to mine the minerals for batteries and oil is an infinite natural resource
I think you are right that the elites want us all in electric cars so they can immobilize us all at will by shutting off the power. I imagine it would be much easier for them to shut down a power plant than trying to stop every gas station from selling gas.
But still it doesn't matter. Electric cars are coming and the consumers are going to choose them.
IMO in a few years when their batteries expire
you won't be able to give these boat anchors away.
Irrational hatred of this technology will not change anything.
