DuckDuckGo made a deal with the devil. Due to a confidential search agreement, the DuckDuckGo browser does not block all Microsoft trackers. What’s worse, DuckDuckGo only acknowledged this “privacy hole” after it was discovered by a security researcher."

Wonderful, isn't it? After the last Bing incident, then the censoring fiasco, then this.
I think the rooski yandex engine is the only truly uncensored search engine, which on a base level seems absurd, but on a BASED level as we are is about as on target as expected
On DDG, they made their bed, no big deal to give extra reminders.
Was funny, my wife was struggling to find stuff on Google and asked me for other search engines that might be better. I gave her a list of a few that I've tried, within a few hours of her doing her own testing she comes back that Yandex was clearly a superior search engine to others (brave search, qwant and one or two others)
Agree, just wait for it to be banned. You know, "muh Russia"...
Yandex is pretty good.
Perhaps, but they're no good for privacy. I mainly use Brave search.
What browsers can we use now? I need to ditch this one.
Ive been using Yandex for a couple months. Switched just before DDG did a massive censorship push. Yandex seems uncensored on current events, allows both sides. Great for searching "political" things.
My only complaints are that it's hard to do "personal" searches (troubleshooting car problems, searching local city businesses) but I also don't have my location service on for the app, so it could be that. I was also having issues with everything being in Russian, but it has a handy "translate page" tool. I don't trust it for banking, then again I don't really trust any search engine for that. I prefer to keep it old school and go in person.
TLDR: Yandex is great for Political inquiries and current events, less so for personal searches.
I've heard pretty good things about Brave as well.
I use Brave also.
Try https://swisscows.com as well. Good for anything but searches containing profanity.
As an example, here's what you'll see if you search "boobs"-
No results found for "boobs"
Dear user, search results for the query "boobs" may contain violence and pornographie. Since we have decided on the protection of minors, the search for this query is disabled.
Thank you very much for your understanding!
Brave or Waterfox.
All other browers track you.
I recommend the plugin privacy badger for either as well, it blocks cross-site tracking cookings.
For search Yandex or Startpage. Yandex is Russian so no Fedboi or Five Eyes cooperation whatsoever, and Startpage hasn't been compromised like DDG.
Waterfox is silly outdated nonsense.
Librewolf is the privacy fork of Firefox.
Vivaldi and Brave, in that order. Both have built-in ad and tracker blocking available.
Thank you. I knew duckduckgo was not good but didn't know why. Then I just went away from them and wen to Startpage.
I am glad this is coming out.
Startpage gives you Google results.
Used to be different. When did they change? There's another good one called Ecosearch. They plant trees when you use them.
It was always that way. They tell you themselves in their about us section.
I use Qwant 1st and Startpage as a backup.
Thanks frens
I have noticed this too
they literally tell you: https://www.startpage.com/en/about-us/?t=dark
Paging the FTC
Shit-canned DDG a year ago because of shady BS. Anyone still using it should just use Google if you don't care.
This isn't a shill for Google. Just sayin if you give no fucks, at least use the more robust of the intrusive engines.
Brave and Yandex FTW!!
I stopped using fuckfuckfoe after the censoring shit, I was not even aware of anything before that. Good riddance!
It should be obvious they were full of shit because how else would they make money? They make it through either selling data or ads. And ads that aren't targeted towards you(they need your data to do this) pay like shit. They weren't running a search engine out of the kindness out of their heart, free of charge.
This is about the browser specifically.
Firefox is the browser I use.
Qwant for search.
Qwant is good, but it censors Russia.
just downloaded Yandex to give it a try and after downloading it asks for an option to 'pin' ALICE to the taskbar. I suppose Alice is the search engine name ? or is alice searching wonderland ?
Sounds like you downloaded the Yandex browser. You can just use your current browser and go to their website at https://yandex.com
I would personally uninstall the application.
yup.. Thanks I already uninstalled. It wasnt a good experience.
Yandex is a good search engine, but I wouldn't register with them. Privacy is very bad. Alice sounds like a Siri knockoff.
Try Startpage
SP was bought by a marketing company, so be cautious.
They never had any credibility in my estimation.
I watched a Hillsdale College lecture given by an Internet privacy expert who researched Google algorithm manipulations during the run up to the 2020 election, and he recommended https://swisscows.com.
I tried it out and it reminded me of 2012 era Google. I made the switch and have used it ever since.
It doesn't work for searches that contain profanity, so for "Fuck Joe Biden" and related searches I use either https://qwant.com or https://yandex.com
I also use https://yandex.com for translation work.
And I access all of these from behind a VPN.
I found SC results a little weak. I mainly use Brave search. Qwant as a backup.
