We had a civil court case this year and had all the facts and figures to prove that the builder had breached the contract with us. The contractor lied not once but twice on the stand and so did his wife! Yet they won their case. We had to pay them in full and their lawyers fees.
Something truly stunk about the whole case. Two full days in court and we knew almost from the beginning that we lost. Judge made the decision. And he never once looked in our direction. He knew the other lawyer, but not ours.
Basically the case was about allowances (we hired a lawyer when he told us we had to pay for our granite even though the contract said he would provide and install it... and there was an allowance for it. And secondly the contractor took out cabinets that we had already paid in full for without our permission. We didn't want him back after that and had to call law enforcement to get them returned to us. The contractor wanted us to pay him in full before he even finished the job including items that were in the contract. He took cabinets not once, but twice. Both times our lawyer wrote a letter to have him return them. We never gave him permission to remove them. We called law enforcement and signed a warrant for his arrest to get them back. (not before he had already sent a number of them through a planer and took all the finish off both sides!)
The judge was paid off IMHO. Judge said the contractor didn't steal the cabinets so we were in breach of contract for not letting him finish the job, yet he never had our permission to remove any of them after he had already installed them. There was even a letter from the contractor that said he would return our cabinets when he was paid in full (Extortion!) The contractor even bragged on the stand about taking 52 cabinets and drawers from us when we had about 200 (not that many but we have a lot of custom cabs). He said if he took 200 that would be something! My mouth dropped open when he said that. But it made me realize the fix was in and he was gonna win.
Truly disgusting. We had to pay other contractors to finish the work this contractor never did and now he is getting money he doesn't deserve!
Definitely rigged court system.
Watching shows like Ozark gives you a tiny glimpse into just how corrupt our society is today. Judges, law enforcement, politicians. All corrupt.
I think Ozark was made to help prepare minds for what’s coming.
Something similar happened to my family business in Canada, too. We installed a $50,000 audio & video system in the new home of a lawyer in our city (also a government town). He never paid his invoice. We tried to collect for quite a while and then took him to court. He and the judge greeted each other like old friends - because they were! They hang out together, golf, cottages, etc. The judge ruled against us - he said we took too long to collect. We had tried but the lawyer had just ignored us from the get-go!! I guess if you just ignore your debts long enough you get away with not paying for anything and feel no guilt about hurting local small business, as long as you're friends with the legal system.
The Bible warns us about corrupt judges. It also warns judges who are corrupt.
God needs a body before he can punish someone for murder. They are digging their own graves, and soon God's fury and justice can be unleashed.
