Isn't bacon fat just as good? Also, isn't olive oil ok & maybe peanut oil too? Not as good as animal fat of course but in a pinch?
Olive oil is great and adds some unique flavoring. Pricey, though.
On twitter, if you search @seedoildsrspctr he has much more thorough knowledge on the topic. So, in part am just repeating.
Bacon fat is good, BUT most pork is fed seeds to fatten them, and that puts their omega 3-6-9 balance in a bad direction. It doesn't matter with cows because, something with how their 4 stomachs process seeds.
The good oils are extra virgin olive oil, butter/ghee, beef tallow, coconut oil, avocado oil, and duck fat.
Peanut oil, and this surprised me, is not great fat balance, but IS less processed than seed oils.
Oh wow! Thank you! Duck fat, wow! I love to go to the Chinese section & buy their fried duck. I use to think it can't be good for me with all that fat - looks like I should go get some more!
Makes sense about cows. They are meant to eat grains so they have a way to process it. Pigs are naturally omnivores like us. Ty fren!
I know right, and if you roast a duck you might get 1-3 cups of rendered fat that's great for frying and just tastes good
I love duck but usually eat chicken it's cheaper cousin. Could the same be said of chicken fat? I often throw a lot of that away
