So I took a few hours of sun on the beach down in South Carolina this passed weekend, didn't use any sunscreen because the pharma companies want to kill us all. I definitely regret that decision. I got a pretty bad sunburn on most of my body - forehead, under forearms, chest and stomach, back, shoulders, and parts of my legs. I work security so I'm on my feet most of the time - shitty colleagues not giving me enough breaks doesn't help. It also causes me to walk with a limp because it's more of a hindrance to walking, rather than pain. It's 9:45pm and I don't have Epsom salt. Any help/advice to reduce the swelling overnight? I'm not expecting it to go away immediately, just as long as I can walk okay.

NSAIDS and aloe or even just aloe gel can help. But if it's bad enough, you might need to see someone. I had a second-degree sunburn on my legs when I was a teenager and it got pretty ugly. If it's just a typical sunburn, then it just takes time and pain killers to get through it, and the pain killers will reduce the swelling. Good luck.
Lay with your legs elevated above your heart, drink lots of water, get plenty of rest. It'll take time.
compression stockings.
What about ice will that help? Ice helps me with swelling.
Possibly/probably is now cellulitis. Look it up. Not good. Must have antibiotics. Steroids help as well if you have any. Also we got silver sulfadiazine cream prescription.
My daughter just did the same thing a few weeks ago. Do not play with this. It’s an infection in the bottom layer of skin and can go really bad really fast. Epsom salt didn’t help much. But we did have some colloidal silver spray and used it before we got the cream.
Also it does not heal quickly. You have to be very patient and elevate your legs as much as possible. And if you start antibiotics and think it is still getting worse go back immediately and have them switch to a different one.
It's just pretty swollen. I didn't cut myself by my foot/lower leg. I did step on something when I was actually in the water, but the ocean has always done a great job at healing any kind of cut or bruise for me. I'm obviously going to pay attention to it - I pay attention to my body, unlike a lot of other men.
There doesn’t have to be a cut. The sunburn weakens the skin allowing infection to set in. It’s really kind of bizarre. I’d never heard of it before but did a lot of reading on it. I also had a minor case of it on my legs. Definitely sunburned but days later when it should’ve started to ease up and start fading and peeling instead it got really tight/swollen and hot to the touch. Maybe it’s not what you have. I hope not for sure.
If you have oatmeal in the house, make up a bunch and once cool rub it on anywhere burnt. I live in the region where you got toasted and used to get baked regularly in Sanibel Island every March when I lived in the tundra up North.
Either open up some Vitamin E capsules or use a bottle of vitamin E. Rub that all over all the burned areas. Reapply as necessary. I used that on a bad sunburn once and the redness and pain went away overnight. I have also used an Aloe vera plant, split open and laid on an infected burn and it worked pretty quickly. You can use a bandage to keep it in place until the body absorbs the aloe. Aloe is also sold by the bottle...some for strictly topical use and some you can drink (George's). You can soak some clean cotton or gauze in the drinkable aloe and lay that on the worst spots. Lavender essential oil is great for burns...be sure it is not synthetic.. you can mix these or alternate you application. Also, Cantharis is a homeopathy for burns. You use it sublingually. If you got burned on the weekend you are late to be treating it. Just do your best with what you have and watch out for infection. Colloidal silver can help with that. Take a bunch of Vitamin C since it helps with tissue repair. Good luck and get well.
Prop your feet up above your heart. After working 12 hour shifts I used to prop them up on my headboard (turn around)... but for actual sleep, 2-3 pillows will work. Definitely keep drinking water and electrolytes - it's hard to think of that when you are swollen but you are dehydrated so your body is sending all the fluid to the sunburned areas and not the rest of your body... so drink a lot of fluid. Compression socks probably won't be ideal since you are sunburned - they would hurt on your skin I'm sure. Also, prop your feet up any time you are able to sit, even if it's for a couple minutes.
Sounds like sun poisoning to me. As for the swelling, maybe an otc diuretics' or teas will help. Parsley is good too. https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/sun-poisoning
Aloe with lidocaine, gel or spray for sunburn skin pain.
If you go without sunscreen, you need to make sure you don’t shade your eyes with sunglasses. Your eyes adjust to the light and the bio feedback loop prepares your skin. If you sneeze in the light you know it’s working (photic sneeze reflex). Otherwise use straight zinc oxide for your sensitive areas prone to sunburn.
Not going to help you immediately but in the long term try majorly increasing your consumption of carotenoid rich foods. Not pills - foods. My husband and I did so starting in 2003 and rarely get sunburn any more.
A good naturopath will teach you that the left hand draws out, the right hand pushes in. If you hold your left hand on the burn, it will pull the heat out of the sunburn.
idk how much skin you need immediate relief for, but hydrogel will do it. Ive seen burns from hot stove pots, hot water, hot coffee, and other various burns disappear in hours. I will never be without hydrogel pads. Theyre called burn pads, target has them, other common places. Look for it to say hydrogel.
If you cant get these, wrap with cold wraps and ice.
Compression stockings. If you stand up at your job all day or all night, everybody should be wearing compression stockings. They’re not just for old people. They’re great for your legs, and they’ll keep you from getting varicose veins, which affects year entire body.
I wouldn’t recommend getting super strong ones, they have different levels of compression. If you’re just gonna be wearing them at work, you might want to get compression socks. But check around and see what’s available, and try not to get ones that are gonna be so tight around your upper calf towards your knee.
They have some thing at Walmart that’s a little bit less than a compression stocking, but Still provide support. The compression stockings are difficult to get on and off, so they do have a tool that you can use for that. Usually when you purchase them it’ll come with a little tool, but if you’re gonna be wearing them all the time you can get a larger tool. Just do the research.
I had foot surgery seven weeks ago, and I happen to be wearing one right now. But I’m a woman and mine goes all the way up to my thigh. I prefer those myself. But I don’t think a man would be interested if you are a man.
Are you a biologist? How dare you claim to be able to identify yourself as a woman! 😂
Couldn't help myself
😂
But my mom‘s a biologist, and she lives with me, so I had to ask her one day, and she let me know.

Calendula salve for burning and swelling.
I once got a very bad burn in Aruba. a cold milk towel compress laying on me over night worked pretty well
Believe it or not I’ve read that if you heat up cabbage leaves and wrap them on whatever is swelling it works great. I haven’t tried this myself though.
I used cabbage leaves for cracked nipples while breastfeeding, worked beautifully.
I had a few bad burns as a kid, (not quite a ginger, but I burn like one) and my grandmother used apple cider vinegar on me.
Also, my go-to for just about everything these days is Black Cumin Seed oil. It may help with the inflammation.
Stay hydrated, fren.
Compression socks for later.
The swelling is your body's natural process. To make things more comfortable, walk and move as much as you can to keep blood flowing. Pump the muscles. Be conscious of how you walk. Use your calf muscles and push off with your toes/ball of your foot to engage the calf. If you get a break, put your feet up over your heart.
For the sun i don't wear much block. Stick to zinc, etc products. Don't use the spray stuff AT ALL.
If you go without a key element to prevent burning is to keep the skin moistened. Don't let the skin dry out. Coconut oil, etc. Even just plain lotion applied every 30 minutes.
If you're swelling it also means you probably were in the sun too long as it is. Don't lay out as long. Use an umbrella. Put a towel over your legs, etc.
If it is too bad you may wanna get checked, open burns can get badly infected fast. If it is a normal 'bad' sunburn, Solarcaine is amazing. It has lidocaine plus aloe, pain is gone immediately and it says hydrated and helps the healing.
