Japan actually has a lot of Christianity in its roots and has caused a lot of upheaval in its history, which is why holidays like Christmas are celebrated -- if slightly differently.
I believe in Japan now it's Buddhism > Christianity > Shintoism, but I'd have to do a fact check on the ordering. I know Shintoism is an old and less worshipped religion now there.
I wouldn't go that far. High property taxes, high income taxes, a culture that does everything it can to discourage individual thought or free expression, a strong propensity against worshipping Jesus Christ, a guilty-until-proven-innocent police/court system, and a media no less controlled by it's government than our own that continually blasts it's people with messages condemning religion and self-defense tools, among others. If you can get passed that and you are ethnically native Japanese, you'll probably be fine. Don't get me wrong, I love Japanese people, I lived there for a time, but I can't pretend it's better to live in than America
They do get some things right. Shacking with someone of the same sex and calling it "marriage" happens to miserably fail the bit about individual expression, because it's not "just what we do". No matter how insane or sexually charged teenage Japanophiles may think Japan is through the distorted lenses of entertainment media and their own expectations, Japan is extremely conservative and orderly.
Japan is one of the least Christian nations on earth, and they still got this right.

Shintoism is an under-appreciated religion
The western nations should be ashamed. π―π΅ judges with common sense, something our liberal courts donβt have.
"However, same-sex couples still do not have parental rights over each otherβs children."
Thank God for this. Saved lots of kids.
This is why Japan is one of the perfect places to live.
