I was listening to the VA guy do the Pledge of Allegiance in Illinois Trump rally, I didn't recognize it. I was doing the pledge in grade school in the 70's.

God was added after WWII, in the 50s.
It was never legislated by the federal government, so the states can use it or not, and if the states don't say anything, it's up to local school boards.
Leave it up to the states, that's interesting, where'd I hear that? Rhetorical question.
Yes. I remember the change in grade school. It wasn't universally popular.
Anything without God is dead.
It originally was not in the Pledge. It was added in 1954 because people thought it sounded the same as communist creed without it. Then, in 2002 or 2003, a California court attempted to remove it. That decision however was eventually overruled by SCOTUS, and so it still remains today. I guess it is up to individuals how they want to say it.
But it is instructive to note the pledge without God is actually the original one.
In God we trust was made the national motto, I know that, so that's cool. I love our National Motto on all of our legal tender.
...And to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
That's the one I remember and prefer, I guess I don't do the pledge much.
It there a new one?
Seems you can do it any way you want.................state government can make it how they want it to read. I'm with you, I'll stick with the one from the 70's.
Me too. I will teach kid how it's done aswell.
It wasn’t (even though challenged).
Oddly enough it was added in 1954. Not an original part.
Pretty sure it happened under Clinton in the 90's.

It was added under Eisenhower. Under God wasn't in the original.
A better question should be... Why? IMHO that's why we are having the issues we are having today. Why did we take God out of...
Probably the same time as "Justice and Liberty for all". Well, I admit the words are still there.
It's "under God" in my community.
This is why you don't do away with hell my brother
"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
