Because we humans are both spirit and flesh. We interact with both the spiritual realms and the physical realms. The only reason why we (generally speaking) don't interact clearly and consciously with all the spiritual realms is because the Fall (sin) destroys the capacity of our spiritual senses.

Gaining sovereignty over our flesh is the real key to resolution of evil and advent of the kingdom. The Devil uses our flesh to undermine our spirit. Thus, the number 666 in Revelations refers to our physical flesh.
Note, in conjunction with this interpretation, that although salvation from the Blood of the Cross brings us spiritual salvation, it does not deliver physical salvation. The spirit is liberated to return to God, but the flesh remains under the dominion of the Devil, as does the sovereignty over the physical world.
This is why materialism is the greatest ideological weapon against God's people.
Logically, this also explains why Christ must return. To remove the Satanic claim to our flesh, so that the physical world as well can be freed and the sovereignty of BOTH the spiritual and the physical realms can be returned to God.
Salvation by the Blood of the Cross is not completed salvation. It is only the first phase: spiritual salvation. Christ returns to complete the whole salvation process.
