Overall brand can be tasty, especially for kids. Probably better to get kids growing up to appreciate better quality chocolate though. The history of why some people find Hershey's chocolate to be waxy and gross is really interesting.
However, the growth of chocolate has been really solid over the years and now we have some really good, pretty affordable bars in the U.S. that we didn't before.
Where Hershey's excels is volume, however. It's a go-to brand (as in, all brands under the Hershey umbrella) for large batches for this explicit reason.
I hope kids can have a good Halloween. They have been deprived so much these last couple years.
my favorite chocolate is Choceur from ALDI. as my old roommate put it, it's more of a good "eating chocolate" than "savoring chocolate" but that's kinda what hersheys tends to do anyway
Good way to describe Hershey's. "Eating chocolate".
I like chili chocolates for savoring. The spicy sensation is delightful
Any specific recommendations? I'm down to try a spicy chocolate
I enjoy Lindt's chili dark chocolate, it's a treat I get now and then. But it's pretty dark, so if your bitter tolerance is low I'd avoid it. I'm actually on the lookout for other brands myself that carry spicy chocolates. I'd like to find some good American made spicy chocolate, because of course aiming to support local is good.
I popped over to Michigan into Traverse City recently (the cherry capital!) and got some lovely locally made chocolate cherries for friends and family. It tells me I need to visit more fun places before this country explodes into nuclear war haha
If you look at the ingredients in the Choceur, it is very pure and not full of chemicals and crap.
It has a very creamy feel to it.
While Hersheys isn't the best you can get, it is certainly way better than a lot of the crap on the market. I'm talking to you, Palmer's, Russell Stover.
Hershey's has a bit of a negative connotation due to the fact that their process uses butyric acid. It's not actually terrible if you grew up with it, but awful if you grew up with other chocolates for sure.
I like Hershey's chocolate now and then, there's a certain quality about it that takes me back to my childhood.
Fast breaks and Reese's cups are my two weaknesses (same with Oreos), and it's a rare indulgence. I'll live by avoiding them for a while, since I am already eating sugar in moderation anyway.
I think I had Stover once and was not impressed. I don't think I've had anything by Palmer's though. Glad to know to avoid them!
For me, Palmers and Frankford are basically bottom of the barrel... Nestle is close... Whitman and Russell Stover next. Hershey gets more disgusting the older I get. Mars.. meh, lindt is too smooth and cloying now. Dove was good for awhile, same as Ghirardelli. Im basically down to random foreign stuff or super expensive stuff. Oh.. It doesn't matter how bad they are, they're good.. Curly Wurlys from England. Used to have Marathon bars here that were similar.
Aww... I like Palmer's. I especially like their peanut butter goods better than Reese's, but the brand seems to be seasonal.
