I mean that's what I was thinking but how much revenue could they have possibly brought in? They were relatively obscure outside of conspiracy circles. And it (was) on public land, so I don't even think there was a gift shop.
Maybe it's like that gag in Married with Children where the town's serial killer was also the man that met Andy Griffith. "This town's got two things to our name: a serial killer and the man that met Andy Griffith! We can't afford to lose 'em both!"
Idk I'm glad they're gone and I hope it stays that way.
I kinda have the feeling that there's a faction that just wants the stones gone. Really, there was no reason to demolish the stones that were still standing. They appeared basically unscathed, as far as I could tell from photos. I highly doubt they would have fallen over. The weight alone should have kept them erect, along with the remaining weight of the capstone. It would have been easy enough to erect a temporary fence around the area until equipment could be brought in to take them down in a similar fashion as to how they were erected. However, they seemed to be in an awful hurry just to knock them over and get them out of there.
The article says they gave the pieces back to the granite company that built it. This may be "code" for, "Here are the pieces. Now go memory hole them somewhere until people forget about them." Wanna bet the granite company uses the pieces to make something else out of them? Time will tell, I guess.
Maybe that's why the mayor announced plans to rebuild them then like a week or two later have the city council announce that not only are they not rebuilding them, but they're also donating the land back to the farm.
As for what will be done with the remains... hard to say. My vote goes "gravel" LOL
Granite is too expensive to just turn into gravel if you can find something to repurpose it as. One could carve quite a few Pepes out of what's left. I'm sure they could get some pedes to shell out for one. Kek.
Are the stones still on site? They could leave them set up in a safe manner and make that the tourist attraction...with a big sign saying something like "Monument to the Folly of Man" or something.
I'd like to know a quote for how much it would cost to make new ones, especially if they're built to the exact same specifications. It would have to be in the millions and it's hard to imagine the city council being able to not only afford that but also somehow make their money back lol
The only way I'd see it happening is if some Luciferian nut like Ted Turner foots the bill, and if the old guard is being torn down like I think it is, they don't have any more money.
More likely they're missing the revenue that the tourists brought in. As I understand it, the Guidestones and the town were/are off the beaten track.
They can build a new patriotic monument, celebrating the destruction.......
Probably draw twice the people.
Based

Someone definitely wanted them gone, but who?

Some moonbat will probably make a countertop out of them
Nah, it would be too hard to get crumbs out of the engraved letters. 😋
The capstone would look right at home in a meat-lover's kitchen with the blood stains on it.
Tourist revenue = bribes for rebuilding it.
Bingo
Well now they can have a different type of tourist to go view the wreckage.

Break the stones down to gravel. Sell pieces of it like the Berlin Wall ruins.

Fingers crossed!
