Now do how forcing you to buy insurance is fascist and totalitarian.
Lemme help you out with this abhorrent government intrusion on your right to bear Chevys:
It’s a license plate for vehicles that will be utilized on public roads. The ‘registration’ is logical if you want to also have an enabler for the public safety and security apparatus. Also to pay for and/or maintain it. The plates give LEOs a unique identifier if they need to track down stolen vehicles, identify potential deadly threats that may exist if the vehicle is associated with a criminal … you know, because we will always have those, lots of other LOCIGAL reasons to give your vehicle a unique ID.
“Don't tread on me” is not a bumper sticker slogan against ‘the man’. It applies universally.
Freedom over force. Whatever the issue, I'll always choose freedom over force. If the government is offering valuable services, then make them voluntary.
If the vaccine had appeared to be beneficial, they wouldn't have had to force it. It's the same for all policies, edicts, licensing requirements, and on and on.
Choose freedom.
You are speaking in absolutes. That’s not the real world … and, you have fallen into the logical fallacy of Freedom versus Force.
In order to have order , and a viable social contract, a society MUST have DEGREES of both Freedom, and Force. It is called CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED.
A society where the citizenry participate in Maintaining the proper degree of each under a contractual document (where the ‘rules’ are spelled out) and agreed upon by the majority of its citizens is called Constitutional Republic.
It is the same exact reason Communism fails every single time. Communism fails to provide a mechanism that then allows its citizenry the opportunity to regulate the proper degree of Force its government is allowed to exert in order to perpetuate the communist utopia. Humans that are handed power, will rarely voluntarily relinquish that power. Its a fallacy. So is pure freedom. Its a bullshit Fallacy. Pure freedom to do anything you want immediately descends into mass chaos and anarchy.
Communism is evil, that's why it fails. Freedom works, just give it a chance.
It's a convenience too, as you said. Unique identifiers make locating stolen cars easier. Anyone who has gone down the bicycling rabbit hole has heard a lot of stories about how they couldn't prove a bicycle was theirs and get it back unless they had a unique identifier somewhere on the bicycle that showed it was theirs.
Without a license plate, your black Corvette that you worked to save for and buy would just be one of many in a sea, and you would never get it back, whereas the license plate aids in various ways.
And yes, public roads. We as a community agreed with unique identifiers on the shared road, just like we agreed with reaching a certain age of maturity to be able to drive freely.
It's not really a winnable fight, and you're not required to have a plate to own the car, just to use it on public roads.
P.S. I do feel like mandatory insurance is fascist and totalitarian though.
A license plate is not a VIN number and comes off a car in under a minute. If I steal your corvette, the plate is the first thing that is coming off, never to be seen again. The best way to identify your vehicle (aside from a VIN) is to do non-stock modifications on it.
Plates only matter if you get pulled over and an officer runs your ID next to the plate. Until then, you can have a fake or stolen plate without issue. (stolen plates might be noticed, if recently added to the list or an officer is bored or plate-scanning) You can drive across the country with different plates on the corvette with a low risk of trouble if you drive safely. So clearly they're not a reasonable deterrent against car theft. Chop shops are a thing, as well.
Public roads can be funded with a tax, and don't need to be paired with a plate.
