Yeah, except he needs to understand the constitution a bit better. The second amendment is a protection not a right. The right is natural, endowed by our creator.
I for sure "dinnae" claim to even know more than a taj of The US Constitution , so forgive me ... But isn't the 2A part of "The Bill Of 'RIGHTS'"?
So you're suggesting we get our rights from the constitution/government? No, we don't. And you should surely hope we don't because if we did do you know what that would mean? It would mean the government could take them away. The constitution sets forth a set of protections of our natural rights.
Check out the amendments. Look at the first amendment? Do you actually think it gives us the right to free speech? Look at it closely. What does it say? Do the same for the second amendment. You should notice they are protections against the government infringing on those rights.
The Constitution is a written document that outlined the formation of our Union of States and created a "federation". The Problem with the document was the federal government part. The wrangling over the details took over ten years before they created a system with balance between the Federal and States duties and responsibilities. At the end, there were a few States that still were concerned about the Federal government and insisted that an addition to the document that would delineate restrictions on the Federal government. This became a Bill of Rights. The important distinction that most people don't seem to get is that this Bill did not "grant" any Rights, it simply states that the Federal government is forbidden or restricted from infringing on these Rights, as these Rights are God given and inalienable from the people. The Bill of Rights is a clear and concise limitation on the power of the government, not a magical document that grants Rights to its citizens. "These Rights SHALL NOT be infringed"
Beat me to it. Yeh, he's wrong and should take his own advice to know the Constitution better.
I think not.
That's the problem though: you aren't (thinking).
Yes it is a natural right, but those natural rights were transferred to the Constitution for those who do not take natural rights seriously...like politicians. Founding Father's knew this, which is why the first TEN Amendments are colloquially known as "The Bill of Rights".
For someone who thinks they know the Constitution, your knowledge is lacking.
