While individually some of those are great, as a whole that is still being a conformist if you believe it is the core of your existential worth. We must never get into the habit of defining what a good citizen or human is, that's exactly what the liberals have done forever. Subjugation masked as concern.
The truth is that there is only one way to truly be a non conformist...And that is to seek freedom and victory in Jesus. Enjoy the splendors of the world, but be not of it. Bow to no man other than your heavenly King. Be true to yourself, unapologetic knowing you are no mere mortal but forgiven and anointed.
There is no pressure to build muscles, have kids, or anything else, the real question is
What skills, talents, and thoughts were you blessed with to praise Him in every breath? Life in every breath...
What is your cross? And do you have the conviction to carry it? Will you carry it regardless of how much the world will slander you for it?
Checklisters will NEVER get any of this, that's why there are so many people with abs, kids, great jobs, pets, etc and they're depressed and filled with apathy.
This is why it's called a great awakening.
We can absolutely define what a good citizen or human is- or at least, what a bad one is.
Of course we can't define those things too narrowly. We have to leave room for individual uniqueness. That doesn't mean we can't draw lines, we just have to draw the right ones.
And even then, just drawing the lines doesn't provide guidance for people who are actively looking for specific help and suggestions. We can give people room to be good people in their own personal ways while also offering useful advice for people who are specifically asking for it.
"Ways to be a non-conformist" absolutely does not mean "the only ways to be a non-conformist". OP is not at all gatekeeping, it's suggesting, and asking for more suggestions.
Be non-conformist by conforming to a particular religion. Gotcha.
It's not a religion. Just like there is no qanon, being a Christian is not a religion like being buddhist or a hindu
The first true punks and rebels were Christians in Biblical times of persecution. Christ was as anti establishment and divisive as a man could be. Funny how those who now consider themselves anti establishment tend to look away from Jesus
It absolutely is.
Be an active member of an offline community built around shared values - a church, volunteer organization, fraternal order, gun club, etc. Have a network of people who live close enough to each other to provide meaningful support in a real emergency or disruption.
One of the best posts I've ever seen on this forum
Sadly ignored by most.
I think this is appropriate here:
Dr. Albert Schweitzer, who said:** “At that point in life where your talent meets the needs of the world, that’s where God wants you to be.”**
Variations of this have been attributed to Aristotle, Bach, Robert Louis Stevenson.
I think AUTHENTICITY is key to being NON-conformist. People who endeavor to KNOW themselves discovers their GOD given talents, then go to the next step which is to REALIZE that their specific constellation of talents were given to develop in service to the world. NEXT: THEY DO IT. A true NON-conformist knows this on a deep level and superficiality, trendiness, indoctrination is superseded and falls away.
I will add that deep satisfaction the human soul incarnate in physical/materiality really wants is attained through what I call WHOLESOME ENDEAVOR which is energy expended in (no particular order) creating, building, exploring, lifting, inspiring, informing, comforting, assisting, nurturing, synthesizing, instructing.
"All are called, few choose to listen."
