I've noticed that in the past couple of weeks, every time the resident speaks in front of people, he's always holding a microphone, even while standing behind a podium which has mics set up on it. He hasn't always done this, has he? Am I taking crazy pills?

If he's holding a microphone, he's less apt to shake hands with invisible people.
And remember that he is talking.
Hahahah
Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Look up the secret hand signals the Queen used.

Could he be doing the same with the Microphone?
Could you imagine joe being able to comprehend and remember that concept for more than 5 seconds before he got distracted and started yelling about THINKING ABOUT WHAT YOUD THINK ABOUT

An earlier commenter nailed it, hes given something to hold so he doesn't gesture at empty space like there was someone present.
He could be. You are much better at decoding than I am! :)
He holds it to pretend it's an ice cream cone
He's gonna lick the microphone before it's over with!
It keeps him from picking at his head which he does all the time
He does for sure!
Because his voice, like the rest of him, is too feeble.
Maybe it avoids the strange hands moving through things or extra hands on the podium?
Keep his hands off small children.
